I looked at other amps, in the same area of price and power, such as fender and crate but the warm bassy tone my basic 112 put out sound better by far than either of the above two. For what I use this for I really cant see the need to improve this amp, sure it wieghts in at about 50 pounds, but for the power and sound out of a amp this size, I wont mind sore muscles every now and again.
Model Year: 2001
Price: $270.00 (new)
Where Obtained: Marguerite's Music(Great Place!)
Features:
This is a Peavy basic 112, with a four band EQ knobs, pre-gain and volume. It also has a switch for active and passive basses as well as a bright switch(a great peavey feature!). It also has a effects loop which surprised me. I play jazz and rock and find its 75 watts more than enough for all the ensambles I play with. The electrics are very very soild and like my mark IV this thing is build like a tank.
Sound Quality:
I use this amp with all my basses, a custom fretless jazz bass, a alverez 5 string p-bass and a steinberger xl. Great tone, maybe a little boxy but still has a great clean edge to it. As stated before I have used it in both rock and jazz, but I think it could do anything. This amp is very very quiet and clean even at high volumes.
Ease of Use:
Look if you want a bass combo amp with lots of bells and whistle thats the same size, go with a fender, but if you are looking for a all-around practice/small to medium gig amp thats got enough balls to use with a drummer, this is it. The controls are rather simple and within seconds you can dial up the tone you need. Nothing fancy, just a good all around bass combo (with BALLS!)
Durability:
This thing is bulit like a tank. I just got it a week ago so I dont have a need of repairs, but I got it from a place that is a offical peavey shop/dealer so I can have it fix there under warranty. I feel that this amp can go threw hell and still be ready to play, and with my normal week of playing, it is going threw hell.
