I love this thing. I was always fair at slapping, and this thing makes you sound and play better. It might have to do with the great sounding pickup, or the semi wide string spacing, but it's a fun bass to play.

This beast growls....It can be a little on the treble tingy side if your strings are too brite. I tried rotos on it, and GHS B52's and they were both too bright for my liking. I decided to try Ernie Ball strings...and they sound great.

It's a tough, heavy beast.

I really didn't mean to buy this bass. I was just browsing, honest, and it just appeared. I had considered a Stingray and this one just happened to have come into my local guitar store, great colour & condition and played like a dream. I had always had Fenders, still have, but I really love this axe.

Excellent action, the neck is so smooth. Bass is heavy but I suppose that's a small price to pay for this quality.

So many differnet tones, almost too many. Great sound, you can see why this has become an industry standard.

Only had it 4 months, so far so good. Mind you it is 10 years old and is in "used" mint condition.

The action on this bass is able to get very low i actually set it a bit higher when playing in my rock band! The finish on the neck is superb, feels orgasmic every time i play the thing! No flaws i can think of...

I run this bass through an old marshall head and box. The bass sounds great, everyone knows what a stingray sounds like. Full, Warm sound! Classic musicman sound:as i always say " you can can get different- but not better".I've recorded and gigged extensively with this baby, shes built to last for hundreds of years.

Perfect in all my abuse for the last 3 years.

My stingray has a maple neck and all of the other regular jazz a stingray has, 3 band eq, active electronics, etc..

I love the playability of this bass. I have had it long enough that I know exactly how to set it perfectly. The neck is rather wide, unlike the sterling it has a much wider neck, which I like, but it might not be for some of those with the smaller hands. I personally find it much more comfortable than other basses but I've seen some people need to wrestle with it.

This baby growls and has a good all around tone. Maybe not as much versatility as I'd like from the sole pickup but I can get all the tones I need from my fingers and the active electronics. It sounds really good in the studio just straight with the direct box. Although the slap tone is awesome but could be beefier. It is more of the old school classic slap tone.

This thing will break before I do. It needs to be adjusted about as much as a regular bass, just everytime the weather changes drastically. (which is when everyone should adjust their bass)

It has a good playability, but the neck could be a bit thicker.

I use a Hughes and Kettner Top with 1x4x10"Bass Kick, and 1x 15" Bass Kick, I HAVE Envelope Filter, WahWah CryBaby, Boss Compressor and Boss Chorus AND Distortion. The sound is full, but could have more power in the bass section. The sound is more funky than a Jazz Bass, but one could argue about it. But I am a Flea Fan too.

Neck adjust about twice a year depends on the weather. Other wise it is absolute solid.

All types of action are easily obtained through bridge and truss rod adjustment although I favour a highish action which is what it is set up as when it comes out of the factory. Very nice neck, a mid point between the fattness of a Precision and the thin Jazz style neck. It out play's any bass that I have tryed which include Fender P + J basses, Carvin, Spector, Warick. No obvious flaws other that the pickup magnets can wear a pick down as they are quite close to the strings.

Suberb sound. The reason I chose this bass over a Fender Jazz was that it is so powerful and deep and then can come alive and be stupidly bright for slapping. This bass would suit Funk perfectly, Rock also is right at home on this bass. I have used it for Jazz but it is a bit to punchy and so I tend to use a fretless for Jazz playing. Very full sound, also very low interference because of the humbucker. Very large output volume superb for session recording work. But it really shines on stage.

Very realiable. Hasn't let me down yet. The truss rod was tweaked when I bought it to get a perfect action but hasn't been touched since. It works well in all conditions, I recently played an outdoor gig and it was very humid the neck felt quite damp but played just as well as it had done previously after a wipe down with a cloth. All in all it is built like a brick s*** house!

The only problems ive had with this bass is the volume. the treble knob seems to add quite a bit of volume as it should but when its up and i look at the volume knob the wrong way it goes nuts and gets extreamly loud. other then that its a beautifull instrument

Very low action, when set up well plays beautifully

Fits very well with funk and rock, but can get great tones without messing with your amps eq. a little turn of the knob goes a long way. i think i'm going to end up with a hipshot bass xtender key for easyier tunings

Is great for live shows, very durable easy to adjust your sound on the go. looks pretty on stage. keeps adjustments well as long as its taken care of. all the hardware is very well made and has been holding up fine. a scratch here and there but very little wear.

Heavily modified. Body is stripped and contoured almost like an Ibanez. Custom nut. Bartolini p/u's with Bartolini preamp. Hand rubbed tung oil finish. Tortoise shell pickguard.

I use my thumb alot, so I lower the action to just where the frets start to buzz and raise it a hair. Its a combination of truss rod and saddle adjusts to get the neck with the right feel. Needs to be redone if change string guage.

The Bartolini pickups really bring out the growl in the bass. The only thing I dislike is the versatility, it only produces two or three distinct sounds. Excellent slap and excellent growling low.

I've had this bass about 6 years and the case looks pretty bad. I've dropped it onstage once and its fallen off of the stand a few times with no damage.

Ashdown is the bees knees looks good sounds good to an old bloke like me. For the price I would have expected a better quality of speaker I shall replace it. Trace Elliot looks cheap but was expensive. i am replacing it with a cab I shall build. Zoom 3000B it makes me sound better than I realy am so to me it is worth every penny.

I shall not tempt fate.

A classic axe! Everything in Mr. Decker's review is right on. I was a bit disappointed in the early Ernie Ball StingRays. I was in the market for a fretless and I found the current crop (early 90s) disappointing. The StingRay gets dealt a bad rap concerning its tone. "It has a good sound, but only one sound. Not very versatile." I disagree. With its mid-range punch, there's quite a bit you can do with the sound if your amplification is up to it. True, the StingRay has a great acoustic sound, and it's a dream if you want to slap it silly, but I find it's output quite susceptible to effects and coloring. And its playability is without peer. The StingRay's neck is smooth like glass and fast as lightning.

My axe is a little noisy with the treble wide open. It probably needs a little shielding work.

For a '77 it is in great shape. A few dings here and there. I had a new fretboard put on about two years ago. Everything else is stock original.

My bass was made in California. It has a fretted rosewood neck, full-scale neck with jumbo frets. controls include volume, bass, mid-range, and treble all boosted by 3-band active electronics. The action on this bass is excellent, low with no buzz and great tone. The neck has a familiar P-bass feel, yet slimmer in thickness. It is also unfinished which makes it very smooth and fst. This is a solid bass in every way. No frills, just solid, honest craftsmanship. This bass sounds great acoustically, which has a lot to do with the painstaking alignment of the grain. The body is solid ash, cut in half, and reverse aligned. This provides superior strength and tonal capabilities. I haven't found any flaws in this bass

Right now I am using an old Ampeg SVT through an old Fender 1x15". Through this, I get a good ballsy tone that cuts through without being too sharp. I would say the tone is more warm than dark. I like this bass better than my G&L L-1000 and my Rickenbacker 4001. It has become my main axe. This bass is great for stage and studio. The pickup is both powerful and quiet

It stays in tune very well and the truss rod adjustment is the most accessible and practically designed I've ever found. I do not expose my bass to anything but room temperature, so I can't comment on climactic changes. It's always in tune when I take it out of its' moulded hardshell case, which by the way came with it.
