This album is great! Jeff Ament is a good bass player with melodic bass lines. My favorite songs are black, once and alive.

Ever since "Ten" I have fallen on love with Jeff Ament's bass playing. Although not the first Pearl Jam album that I heard, "Ten" was the first one that made me sit up and realise how good Jeff Ament was! He drives such songs as "Why Go?" and "Jeremy" in which both songs he plays a 12 string bass, giving the songs a deeper, more fuller sound. Combine that with Eddie Vedders vocals, Mike McCready and Stone Gossard's joint lead playing and Dave Krusen on drums and you've got, in my opinion, one of the best debut albums ever.

The best aspect about this record for me is the rawness of the sound and also the bass playing by Jeff. It annoys me when "Porch" is tabbed out and described as easy because there's some really good bass playing going on there that some people seem to miss. I've been listening to Pearl Jam's music for a few years now and they always inspire me. If anyone gets the chance to buy any of the recent official tour bootlegs, then I suggest that they do because you'll hear PJ at their very best.

All in all a must have record and once you've checked this one out, check out their next record "Vs". You won't be disappointed!

Along with fellow Seatle bands Nirvana and Soundgarden, PJ changed everything with rock in the 90's: The sound, the look, the attitude. They took pop, punk, old-school Alternative and even 70's overdriven style rock and made something so much more on this debut album. Eddie Vetter proved to be a great lyricist and had a distinctive voice and message. Jeff Ament is a great bassist and is able to fill in the holes of the music without getting into the way of the rest of the band. Every song on the album could have been a hit single. Features hits "Evenflow", "Alive", "Black", "Jeremy". Some other good ones: "Once", "Porch", "Release".
