My overall opinion is that pod is a good(not excellent) stuff to record bass easily, but i understood that you should spend money and hire roadies to move your heavy gear to studio to get a great sound of bass like those your favorites in several recordings. in additon, pod's tones are traditional and oldie in my mind.the combination of effects are not really useful.you can't get a good overdrive bass tone with your favorite chorus or flanger os thins like that.and there is no delay effect!. and by the way it DOES NOT sound good with my amp.so it's for studio only(as i think)

Sound Quality:
I tested my pod with two basses an american hot-rodded fender precision bass, and my costum made ernieball musicman stingray 5.the results for recording through a mixingboard was satisfactory, but when rinnung through my marshall bass state B-150 combo,it sounds really poor.i tried so much to match this with my amp,so i bypassed the marshall preamp by connecting pod's output to fe return, but i can't get good sound out of it.maybe becouse it runs through 15" celestion speaker that won't match these amps.but with my fender p-bass the sounds are better,so i run my fender through pod for rehearsal, but with musicman it really sounds poor. you should pay particular attention to match pod output level woth your amp or mixer for getting low noise.but overally this unit has not much noise.
Ease of Use:
In the first look pod sounds a really handy toy :) but for getting a good sound out of it,you should apend time to read the manuall with particular attention, and work with pod.so i think it's not handy at all.it really takes a lot of fiddling to obtain a good sound!
Durability:
I haven't screwed my pod yet! so i don't know how durable it is,but seems that it's a fragile thing and you should treat this delicately :)

I've been looking for a portable way to improve my recorded bass sound without hauling a bunch of stuff from studio to studio, and the BassPOD has delivered quite well and it fits in the pocket of my gig bag. I've used on several sessions so far with great results. It sounds great on all of my basses from a modern 5 with active electronics, several passive 4s and even an old Harmony short scale bass with a DeArmond pickup from the early 60s. My only complaint so far is about the limited utility of FB4 foot controller. The FloorBoard is well worth the added expense if you plan to use the BassPOD as a live preamp, it even seems to change patches a little quicker and smoother and the Volume and Wah pedals work just fine. It allows you to change banks, channels, go manual, bypass efx and go to the tuner. 7/31/2002- I'm still loving this thing, it is really handy for recording and playing live. I have mounted it on a rack tray and have hard wired the outputs to XLR outs, this has cut down on the confusion, making it plug and play. I have 1 xlr out for the 'direct' out and 2 xlr outs for the 'model out' so I can send a signal and also hook up to my power amp that has an xlr input.
Model Year: 2000
Price: $340.00 (new)
Where Obtained: MusicToyz
Features:
Drive, Bass, Mid, Treble, Chan. Vol, Compress, Effect Tweak, Amp Model, Effects/Cabs, Output Level knobs. Switches for scrolling up/down, manual, tuner, MIDI, Apply FX to DI, Save and Cabs & EQ. It is AC powered with a mid line wart, don't you wish more manufactures did this. It sure sounds like there are tubes but it is all digital. There is also a tuner that really works well with the Floorboard. There is also a headphone output and this is one of the best Bass Headphone devices I've ever used.
Sound Quality:
It sure does sound like the amps and speaker combinations it represents, everyting from 1x12 and 1x15 combos up to a SVT 8x10. Amps from the 60's, 70's 80's and 90's covering all styles from jazz to metal to tommorrow. The effects are pretty good for the most part but not as good as the originals but a lot handier than carrying them all around. I would say that this would be a good addition for any bassist, for practice, performance or recording at what ever level they are at. The compressor works great, sounds great. I just listened to a finished recording that I made using the BassPOD and this being the only change to my recording setup it has made a profound difference. It was in a studio that I work in regularly with pretty much that same musicians. The bass sits better in the track, even the drummer noticed and the engineer who wasn't sure he wanted to make a change thought that the trak was even easier to mix than before and wants me to keep using the POD. 7/31/2002 Still using it for recording and also some live gigs, it's EZ and it always sounds good. I seem to be using mostly the tube preamp with a bit of compression for recording mostly and adding a little reverb in the mix.
Ease of Use:
It is programmable and it is quite easy to turn a knob to tweak a sound to your liking. Unlike a lot of digital units this one has knobs that change it's virtual world instead of requiring a computer or MIDI controller. Anytime you touch a knob you have made a change and all you need to do is press the save button to keep your changes or go to another patch and discard your changes. It is a lot of fun to try out the different Amp/Cab combinations to find one you like best. If you do use it with a computer there are more levels of control available. 7/31/2002- My only complaint so far is occasionally it seems to freeze up and it is necessary to 'hard boot' the unit and when you do it looses all of your changes and defaults to the factory program, since I don't have it hooked up to a computer I have to make all of my changes by hand, takes about an hour to get it retweaked to my programs.
Durability:
It sure looks tough and durable, the knobs feel solid and the jacks are much better than on most effects units in this price range. I've only had it 2 months so it's too soon to declare it bulletproof. The FloorBoard isn't what I'd call bullet proof either but it's holding up so far.>>>I have had it over a year now without any problems other than the occasional reboot. 7/31/2002- still going strong with no complaints.

Bought this, no questions asked. I would buy this again for sure, everything is top notch. The only way it could be better would be to increase the range of effects, which is already huge. This thing SHREDS.

I would recommend this unit to any bassplayer looking to expand his/her sound horizons. Thew only complaint I have is on manual mode, I wish the bass, mid, treble controls were as little more responsive, Ihave my ada mb1 going through the loop for added eq.

This is the Pod Pro That I bought. This thing is UNREAL!!!! I play in a cover band and this is the best setup since sliced bread.
Sound Quality:
I use it with a Mackie 1400I, 4x10 peavey cab and a Music Man Sterling bass. I've done a little experimenting with it and I have tried slap, finger style and using a pick. I did notice that editing can be a little tedious, but once you get the hang of it, it's a breeze
Ease of Use:
My ada mb-1 is much easier to use, but that is another story
Durability:
I dont know how durable it is, and i dont plan on finding out,,,,hehehe

All transistor, the POD Pro can mimic any Bass amp that you want, it also has that ability to do this with Cabs. Sell off any effect pedals you may own(except maybe for limiter enhancer; always useful), cause this baby has them all built right in. Download any sound out there from the websight directly into the POD's memory banks for later use. I'm still(3 months after purchase) toying with the seemingly infinate factory settings though, and saving my favorite combinations!
Sound Quality:
One word sums it up...PURE!
Ease of Use:
Not only is the unit extremly user(dummy) friendly, but they offer a floor board unit, giving you access to your virtually unlimited sounds and effects right at your feet.
Durability:
I've been using it in the studio only so far(plugged directly into the board!), so there's not much live expirience with it here yet. I foresee no problems with live action though.

The Controls are nice and straight ahead! But Don't underestimate this device it can do lots!!!!!!!!!! Mono input, (bass is mono) can use stereo output, one output for effects, one for clean, combines for some killer tone!!!!!!!!!! Bassically this tool is the bomb!!!!!!!
Sound Quality:
All the effects are awesome, there's a couple that sound like Bootsy's mutron effect. Some killer distortion, to me sounds like either Primus, Steve Baily, or Michael Manring. In other words Phat!!! I also hooked this thing up to my sampler, play some beats and put on the s/h effect (sample hold) Works great!
Ease of Use:
Dead simple to use, but it has some tricks to it which I didn't know at first. Good idea to read the manual lol!
Durability:
Very Durable, haven't tried smashing yet but now why would I do that? Tough as nails!

Features:
It has bass, mid, treble, drive, compesser, clean channel, effects and output controls. Also, has one knob for amp models to select from and on the other knob u have what types of cabinets to select from along with the effects on it too (same knob).
Sound Quality:
Well i put it on Adam & eve setting (david eden) for amp model and on the cab knob i put it on eden 4x10 cab and it didn't sound to much like my david eden set up, maybe it's because they use a wt 300 i got the 500 watt one. I listen to the other ones and they just sound to weird to me, maybe i just not into having effects on my bass. I really have'nt played on alot of their amp models just hartke, ampeg and david eden.
Ease of Use:
Hard to figure out how to work the cabs/effects knob.Sometimes u got the cab on and then u do somethings else with it and then the effect is on.Well maybe, i didn't spend enough time on it but, it's just not for me.
Durability:
It's got some weight to it so it won't break if u drop it.
