This bass is perfect, (well, just about any japanese bass is good for beginners.) This bass doesn't have active electronics so you don't have to worry about switching batteries or anything. I don't think I would buy this bass again mostly because I've got my money's worth out of the bass. It's been everywhere, from rehearsals to concerts, for about 4 years. When it comes to the sound quality, I would just ask for it to have more low end. Otherwise, a very good bass all around!
Price: $325.00 (new)
Where Obtained: Guitar Center
Features:
The BB G4 is made in Japan. It has an alder body with a maple neck. It has 24 frets and 4 strings. It has two passive jazz pickups. The finish sorta resembles a zebra pattern, only with black and a very dark blue. It features a very smooth and comfortable jazz body style.
Playability:
It is so easy to adjust the action on this bass. The neck is pretty good. The only kind of necks that are better are the ones that are painted and glossed like the body.
Sound Quality:
The sound quality is remarkable for $325. I don't see anyone having a problem with this bass comforming to any style. The only thing better sound wise would pretty much be the higher priced american basses (fender).
Durability:
This bass is built like a rock. I've had it for 4 1/2 years and I've only had to adjust the truss rod once. However, a year ago, two of the knobs came loose causing a horrible buzz. I got that fixed for about 25 dollars.

I looked at fender jazz and precision models but thought they were a bit mundane as i wanted an instantly recognisable bass which stood out. i also considered the gibson sg bass. i probably wouldnt buy this bass again as the sound quality could be improved so i would go for sound quality rather than looks. my favourite aspects are wothout a doubt the asthetics as it is beautiful and the way it plays as it has a superb action and is no trouble to play at all. unfortunately their is too much buzzing when used at high volumes.

Features:
It was made in Japan as its Yamaha. the body is made of alder with a high defenition top. it has 24 frets with four strings. it has 3 contorls two tone and one master volume. it has two single coil pickups. my version has passive electronics but yamaha have just released a newer version with active electronics. it is a igh defenition translucent blue colour which caught my eye. it has the body similar to a fender jazz bass. it has a vintage bridge with gold hardware.
Playability:
It is without a doubt one of the best basses i have ever played. proior to buying it i tested many and only the fender jazz was better in my opinion. the neck was a godsend as my first bass was awful with a rediculously high action. its only real flaw is (dont know if this is just me) the bridge is held on by the strings so it moves around quite a lot when you are bending the strings lower down the fretboard.
Sound Quality:
I use a marshall bass state 65 watt amp bought 2nd hand for 200. i play rock style and indie. it seems to suit indie much better as since i have fitted new strings it sounds more trebly than before which i like. previously it sounded full and warm but since it has been re-strung it has sounded much more trebly and has more attack to it. its also much more distinctive nowrather than just being in the background. it is the 1st real bass ive bought so i cant really compare as my 1st was a jazz bass rip-off. it is much better on stage than in the studio as their is quite a lot of fuzz which i am told is because of the electronics.
Durability:
It is incredibly reliable but not totally. it has suffered being dropped by incapable drummers on many occasions and is still in excellent condition. the controls have suffered however, 1 is loose and 1 has dropped off completely. it also has lots of scratches and marks but i believe that this gives my bass charachter.
