Description This is STP's second full length recording. It is an excellent cd of rock and blues. The band pumps out such hits as interstate love song, vasoline, and big empty. They go through a slow acoustic melody to a hard rock jaw dropper.

STP is probaly my favorite grunge band of all time. I'm really glad that they returned to the old school with No.4. This album was great, Interstate Love song and Meat Plow are just fantastic. And the bass groove to Big Empty is haunting.

A fabulous album by what i think is one of the best bands to come out of the grunge-rock years. the DeLeo brothers's writing is always very unique and shows that yes, rockers can apply some serious theory to their work. the album preceding this, core, was also good, but this album delivers great song after great song, while core only garnished a few hits. also, for the vocal-minded, this album, though not as smooth vocally as core, was recorded before scott weiland's voice was completely sacrificed to the god of heroin.

I love this album, but it does not match or approach Core's level of cohesion. Several tracks on the album are pure fluff to separate the well-constructed classics of STP-dom, but Big Empty, Interstate Lovesong, Unglued, Lounge Fly and Pretty Penny are some of my favorite songs. The bass tone on this album is much less punchy than that of Core, though ILs and Lounge Fly have some weight to them, but overall, the album is a good one to have in a collection which already includes Core.

Purple proves that some artist can still come back with something just as good as a prior hit record. Purple to me is a greater achievement than Core. It is a perfect mix of sounds and lyrics. Robert DeLeo did an excellent job on bass. He came out with all sorts of excellent blues and rock bass lines. It is just a great record to sit back and enjoy. It is also an excellent record to learn by ear to improve ones playing. One of the best recording of the 90's.
