The RBX765A is probably my favorite bass based upon appearance; unfortunately my penchant for the 35" scale/19mm string spacing prevented me from enjoying my experience with this bass.

Constructed in Taiwan. Alder body, maple top, 24 frets, 5 strings, 2 Yamaha humbuckers, vol/vol/bass+-/treble+- controls.
Very good action from the box. Nice, fast neck w/satin finish. However, a 34" scale with 19mm string spacing is not for me.
Sound quality is very good, although there is no native midrange.
I had the bass for three months without any problems, but I did have to tighten the strap buttons when I received it. Some owners noted changes in the neck according to climate, but I never experienced that.
This bass is the best: well made, sweet, beautifull, versatile and, the most important -
ITS MINE!
I dont think I need a US$ 5000 Fodera at this moment of my musical career, so my RBX 765a will stay with me for a long and joyfull period of time.

Japan made (...) Well, I think you all know this bass. Ive choose it because it is an active and sends a BIG signal to the mix, whenever via a direct box or straight into the channel, whats a must to play on large and powerfull equipment. It has this modern look that I must confess wasnt my favourite but the color (dark green) is an eye-catcher. A beautifull and effective musical instrument.
I do prefer the "velvet touch" of a Fender Jazz with old strings. But my Yamaha has a 5th string that expand my possibilities on the band. Our overall sound benefits from this modern character. Besides, the low-action fretboard is a breeze to play.
Virtually hum-free, the electronics are amazing! Ive already said that the sound is BIG. And I like that! I use no effects. When I wanna change the sound I just touch the right knob and move my right hand a little bit. No secret. After all, I see the bass as a multi-functional tool, suitable for 12-bar blues and "forr" (a tradicional brazilian music) as well as it is for jazz and hard rock, that I also play.
I got a problem here! My bridge is getting some dark spots on the gold surface. I think its reversible but I didnt try anything to remove them. Despite of this, the bass is a heavy piece of wood and made with quality hardware. I know I can rely on it for many years to come.
For its price range..it was a bargain....the active electronics gave me good tone options...=)...well i wanted to buy the same model again after its encounter with the fan..but the shop didnt have stock!...compared to the TRB....i would take a TRB...but this bass served me well....the only complain is the sloppy Low-B..what i love?...it can take abuse!!!..and i mean every letter of ABUSE!

Made in taiwan!alder body...loaded with bass cut/boost,treble cut/boost,pan pot and volume...its fretted rosewood fingerboard 5 string bass....two soap bar active electronics bass..red...almost similar body to the TRB...an armed with a standard bridge..
I tried lowering it REALLY low and i stil could get good tone out of it..without dead spots..only problem was i pick too hard!hahha....the neck was heavy and pretty big ... wasnt good for my fingers... compared to my other basses ..this took the cake...
I played it with alot of amps....too many to mention.but i have to say..it always sounded good...except when the strings got old..hahaha=)it went really well with my rock band....partly b'cos it had a low B?...and playing jazz chords on this bass was really good...nice tone..its troaty....but the Low B is sloppy....i recorded with this bass..and it sounds good even on CD...as for on stage?...it rocked...
I abused this bass on live shows....it held tuning very well until i started crashing the head on the cymbals(dont ask)...truss-rod held even to its last!!the bass hit a fan and even thru the neck split..the neck remained straight....
I'D RECOMMEND THIS BASS TO ANYONE THE PRO'S DON'T PLAY IT FOR NOTHING....MYUNG,EAST AND PATTATUCHI KNOW WHAT THERE DOING AN SO DO I.

I bought this bass by chance off my dad's mate who wanted an upgrade. I hadn't really considered 5 strings before, but I had seen him play it live and liked it. Also, he was only asking for 250, which is a bargain as it was retailing for 450. I should point out that I am Scottish, and stuff all over the UK is far more expensive than in US, Canada and the Continent. It's probably cheaper wherever you live, dear reader. I would not buy it again if it were stolen, because I am only 17 and simply couldn't afford to buy it at the full price. I would definitely like the bass to have slightly better fret access at the 23rd and 24th frets, and the pretty paint, although it is so nice, is high maintenance - greasy finger marks show up like turds on a wedding dress. I love the natural string spacing, it's not big and clumsy, and it's not too close like a banjo. If I were you, I'd buy this bass. Sorry, but my one isn't for sale. And thanks to Mac who sold it to me at a great price. Goodbye all!!

The first thing I hae to say about this badboy is that it is sexy. The sleek shape of its horns and the width of the body at the bottom is like an abstract painting of a beautiful woman stretching as she wakes up in the morning. And the colour... God! The manufacturer says that it is transluscent red, but it deserves a far cooler name. It's like a glass of the tastiest wine you have ever drank, and the best part is that you can easily see the natural patterns of the wood underneath. The hardware is gold, which goes really well with the laquer finish. Now for the serious stuff. Two no-nonsense Yamaha active pickups which are as chunky as hell, controlled by 4 pots for treble, bass, pickup pan and the oter one, uh... volume! The tuning pegs are like inverted arrow heads, which are more attractive than those traditional elephant ears that appeared on loads of earlier basses, and much more practical than the likes of the tiny Danelectro pegs which should really only appear on guitars. An interesting feature is the lack of a string tree, which I am told reduces the rate at which the instrument goes out of tune, but to be honest I haven't really noticed any difference in that respect. Oh, and it has 5 strings and 24 frets on a rosewood fretboard, which can be an advantage, I suppose. Made in Taiwan.
The badboy plays really well, I think. It's not at all difficult to play. It took me a day or two to get used to the addition of the B string, but the profile of the neck is as smooth as a well oiled midget and it is not very deep at all, so there are no problems with trying to get my hand around it. The action can be altered really easily, using the allan key provided by the good people at Yamaha. The lower horn is cut away so that higher fret access is not a wrist-twisting struggle, but an extra centimetre wouldn't be a bad idea. All in all, it plays better than most, with perfect string spacing.
I use my trusty Laney Richter combo, a multi effect pedal and my Boss Auto Wah pedal with the bass. The sound varies from a really warm and rumbling tone to a super bright honky bite. I tend to stick more to the neck pickup to keep it warm for when I play walking ska. Otherwise, when the guitarists are chez moi, an even mixture of the 2 pickups along with a touch (but not too much!)of overdrive has me moshing with my dear metal head chums. The general quality is really good, although there is quite a noticeable buzz when the treble is cranked right up. Maybe that's just my amp or my neglected leads, but chances are it's the bass, and it really does make me want to vomit on my own shoes. It's a versatile bass, the guy who owned it before me is a live jazz player, and he got some really good bright sounds out of it.
The body and neck seem as tough as nails, although I don't particularly want to test the durability too much, so I don't know if it would survive the fall from my bedroom window. What I do know is that it hasn't got a single scrath or dent on it, which is surprising when you look at my friends' instruments which look as if they were used as bullet proof vests at one point. One bad point, however. A few weeks ago the nut split at the groove for the D string, which almost had me in tears.
I'd buy this again, for sure! This 5-string is near perfect for the price. The gold hardware takes a little extra love and care to keep looking new, though (minor thing).
