Beginners 5-string wise this is as good as you can expect for this price. If I would to suggest a first five string bass I would have to go for Ibanez EDC705...

Wide neck, very hard to play. It has a bit of "second level" feel to it. I still used it nicely to learn playing that extra string.
Well.. Low price, low quality. don't expect too much. Biggest problem is the volume on different strings and different frets over the neck. It varies just a bit too much for my liking.
Five degrees of temperature change and you have to re-tune the bass. A bit too heavy (not heavier than RBX6JM though).
Hardware perhaps a bit to fast to rust if not cleaned too often
If you are looking for a high quality, reasonaly priced 5 string, check this one out. I also played Fender, Ibanez, Jackson, Cort Curbow, Hohner and some more expensive basis. For the money, this bass can't be beat.

The BBG5S is an active 5 string. It has an alder body and a maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard. It has 2 humbuckers with a master volume, pickup pan and bass and treble boost. It's downsized body is comfortable and light. It's got a wide neck with very bass-like string spacing.
I like relatively high action, which is not a problem. If the B string is too low, it gets a bit flubby. Like I noted above, the neck is wide and flat, with jazz bass string spacing. This bass just says, "groove!"
This bass has a warm, supportive sound. I play in a church, with a lot of acoustic instruments. I can boost the bass a bit and get a nice fat, round but cleat tone that works great. I can also get an old school slap sound when I need to.
I have a one and three year old, who drop my bass regularly. It holds up just fine.
