I have used alembic preamps,
crown,BGW,svp,ashly,fermen,v4b,perice you
name it.but when i go out to a gig or a jam i
use my fender bxr 400s. all the other amps
are realy good but the fender with the dbx is
my sound and none of the other sound like
it.yes i would buy this ampe again.the amp
would be better with a fan and a good variable
compressor and would be better if i could run
it in a mono mode for the little gigs so i could
use just one 4 ten cab.

Very simple e.q gain and master/the comp
sucks but i use
a dbx 160x patched in with a couple of Y cords
in the pre. in power out on the A. and B.loops
this makes the world of difrence , it is a sterio
amp and the dbx is mono but set up like this i
can crank the s--- out of it with out distortion. i
tryed outher compressors out and this is the
one for the job. with out the dbx 160x the amp
is no good to me at all. the two units work well.
i have bin runing this set up for 10 years
now.befour the in put stage i use a sadowsky
out board bass preamp it realy helps in the
bottom end.
I play B.C.Rich eagles and alembic basses
my style is a bluse,rock,fusion .i use ampeg
twin 15 cabs with JBL K140s,eden 4 ten ,swr
4 tens. the amp works well and is suited for
what i do,i used ampeg SVT,s for 17 years
and i tryed one out for fun with two 8 tens cabs
and it kicked ass. i sold my svt,s and bought
three BXR 400 they improved my playing they
are so clear sounding and loud i used them at
small gigs and concerts.it is a good speed
metal sound too.I,v played some R and B and
country gigs and the amp sounds just right.for
playing rock,with the sadowsky i can clip the
front end just right and it kind of sound like a
svt but so clear i can hear the pings and every
thing i do.
Very easy to use i took about 3 weeks be for i
new what i wanted out of it, like i sed with out
the dbx 160x this amp would be no good to
me at all the combo is just right.the only thing i
had to do is wire my ampeg 2 by 15 cabs in
stereo, and build a patch bay in the back of my
rack so i could run four 15s or two 15s and
eight 10s.
This amp is solid state and it came with a big
heat sink on the back of it.i have a fan right in
the back of my racks blowing cool air on them
and i have no truble at all.but i have bin hering
bad things about them that people have had
trouble with them and that is why they do not
make them any more.i have run 3 of them for
about 10 years and have no truble at all.
