I tried this bass because it got outstanding reviews. I was not disappointed. It delivered everything I read about. Were it lost or stolen, I probably would not be able to find another one. A Jaco fretted would probably be the replacement for a lot more money.I am very satisfied and it just fills the bill for the vintage J vibe I was looking for. If you can get a deal on one, go for it, if you are looking for the Original J bass vibe. It doesn't have the modern J bass vibe.
Price: $400.00 (new)
Where Obtained: KK's Music Manchester,Tn.
Features:
MIJ,Alder body, Maple neck, rosewood fretboard,20 vintage size frets, jazz pickups and control config,3 tone sunburst, vintage reverse tuners.
Playability:
The bass has very good action after a set up, neck relief near flat and strings low.It plays very nicely, typical J action.
Sound Quality:
I use this bass with Bxr 400, spectrum bottom and Sans Amp BDDI.I play rock, blues, pop and it is versatile for these genres and no doubt others. I have Fender original '62 pickups in it having replaced the originals (which were good ) but the '62's are fabulous. They Have Fat bottom and smooth top end ala old style jazz bass tone which is just what I was looking for. Very even and well balanced tone which can go from warm to snappy, with loads of growl. If you want pre-twanky J-bass tone, here it is. I have gone through a few J basses trying to get back the tone of my original '65 I let go. This cops the vibe and I am back home. This is one great bass and the '62 Pickups really round it out.Since I play with both pickups pegged, hum is cancelled, directional hum not a problem so far.
Durability:
So far, very stable and reliable, hey not much to go wrong. I have always found original config. Fenders to hold up well.
