Creed singer punches man in Florida

April 20, 2001

St. Augustine, FL -- Creed vocalist Scott Stapp was involved in a brawl last Sunday at a nightclub in Florida. According to a witness Stapp arrived at the Mad Love Room in St. Augustine on Sunday at around 10:30 p.m. with actress Kristy Swanson. The two stars were friendly with the VIP crowd, posing for pictures with fans. Things got ugly, however, around 12:30 a.m. when one partygoer began hassling the Creed singer.

"Some local went up to Scott while he was dancing," says the witness, "and said, 'You should've stuck with Pearl Jam.' So Scott yelled back, 'You wanna disrespect me?' and starts screaming. And the other guy was like, 'You're not a superstar.'" Stapp then punched the other man in the face, giving him a bloody lip and black eye, before the crowd could break them up.

Police arrived on the scene and questioned witnesses, but no charges were filed and no arrests were made.

Creed's management had no comment on the incident.

This is the second recent skirmish involving Stapp. On February 8th, according to a Seminole County police report, he verbally accosted and threatened the owner of a Maitland, Florida, tattoo parlor after the owner told customers who Stapp was.
