The equipment used to record was ACID 3.0 computer program. On bass, I used a Warwick 5-string FNA, SWR Goliath III 4X10 cab, SWR SM-400 head, all with the help of Monster cables. My guitarists use a Fender and an acoustic guitar. Our drummer uses a Pearl drum set and the singer uses Shure mics.
This song first came into development from my guitarist (Jeff). He brought in a few riffs and the three of us (drummer, guitarist, and I) started jamming on this riff. I was just messing around with a rock/funk style because the riff was a hard rock style. The drummer (Elliot) made a funky rock beat which guided me to make my bass riff. Then we took the song to our singer (Mark) and our other singer/guitarist (John). They all liked it very much so we wanted to record it.
The development of the songs bass line was just me being creative and just putting what "needed" to be in the song. Bascally whatever sounded right I left in the riff and whatever sounded bad I got rid of. The riff starts out with a funky bass riff in the beginning. Then comes the lead-in to the chorus. Elliot, the drummer, came up with idea of changing the lead-in into a 7ths count. This lead-in ended up being a hard rock riff then into a great sounding chorus where I hit some octaves. In the chorus I follow the guitar player in the riff then I move up the fret board to the same notes on the same string and I repeat the lick of three notes two time (C,B,A C,B,A-). Then as the song progresses I have a bass solo that I play at the bottom of the neck. I do triplets and I make the solo stable to reinforce the song not my talent. I have received many compliments on my bass playing in this song and I hope you enjoy finguring out the riff and playing along with this song.
