Dub Love is in the key of Em, and in 4/4 or common time. One of the things about improvising arrangements with sequencers is, you tend not to bother writing stuff down any more. Why bother? all the infomation is on disk.
I love dub, as the bass gets to play such great melodies! I had already started the body of the tune [verses]. An afternoon of jamming to what I had gave me the intro and break. In the good ol' days of 4 track, needing to have a few attempts at a tune was a regular occurance. The mix you hear is probably about number 6 or 7.
I wanted to share with you a moment from the days when
sequencing was not so easy, as one's playing had to be much more confident. And just when tape recorders became good, they became redundant. This tune was mastered to cassette on a Technics RS-B85 [3 head/Dbx] machine using type II tape - superb machine!
Now of course, we all have computers and we can do everything digitally. This track also illustrates the frustration of trying to make machines emulate 'real' playing. If there are any 'real' drummers out there who would like to work on this kind of material, you know the script: email me.
Love music - enjoy!
