Background Information
I have been playing for some 14 years now (as of Nov. 2005). I started playing guitar, but switched to bass in high school when I ended up in a band with three guitar players and a drummer. My brother had a 4 string Ibanez and a Crate B150 Bass amp that he never used, so I was the likely candidate. I suddenly realized that bass was a nice mix between playing guitar and drums; it's really in the middle as far as function goes. This was great considering I had always wanted to play drums, too, but they were too loud for my parents. At any rate, I ended up playing in several bands in high school (including the marching band and jazz band). I never played for any bands associated with the university I went to (Biology major), but I played in several country and southern rock bands on the weekends for spending money. Lately, I've been trying to finish up a solo project (new age/pseudo jazz) and am working with a friend of mine putting together a punk band.

Current Gear
I still have the Crate B150, but sold the Ibanez. I also have a Fender BXR200 amp. My favorite bass is my 12 year old Carvin 5-string fretless (Koa body and neck). I usually keep it strung with a high C (instead of the low B, besides it has a Hipshot detuner on the low string). This gives me a little more room to play when it comes to melodic work without the neck width of a 6-string (hey, I have short fingers!). I also have an Epiphone EMB5 fretted 5-string, which I bought as a backup. It feels great, but has a fairly hollow tone. I've been debating on removing the preamp and doing a little rewiring/pickup replacement. I keep the Epiphone strung with a low B. I also have a small studio setup running Cubase 5.1 on an older P3 Compaq.
