I'm playing a lot more bass these days and am in the market for a new (additional) bass. I'm interested in a Carvin IC4 ( and especially the IC4W in Claro Walnut ( I searched the Fretbuzz archives, but the posts were all 8+ years old and I was wondering if anyone has had any recent experience with Carvin's quality control.

I currently have a Aria Pro II P bass copy. I play mostly "classic rock," blues, some 90s stuff (STP, Pearl Jam, etc.) and some older metal (Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Judas Priest, etc). I'm also in the process of upgrading my amp so I don't have a specific head/cab pairing to list.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I had them build an SB4000 for me, maybe 2 years ago. Build quality was exceptional. Beautiful walnut top. No complaints. They're occasionally a little lax about sending out their notices and the like - but hey, they're musicians at heart, so cut 'em a little slack. It's easy enough to get them on the phone.
I think I ended up switching out the pre-amp, but probably only because I can't stand to leave anything stock. I also had a used ICON 4, with a single MM pickup that I got for cheap. It was kinda beat up, but that wasn't Carvin's fault. Played well.

I have mostly heard good reviews about Carvin bass, very little bad. I have wanted to play a Carvin bass but don't know anybody that owns one. For the most of the past 3 years I have been playing a 5 string, 35" scale Ibanez BTB that my wife got me as a gift. Would like to try the Carvin 5 string, 35" scale. I am very happy with the way my bass plays and sounds but like a lot of others on this site it safe to say " you can't have too many bass's ".
