String tree...

Most basses I have owned have a string tree on the headstock... is there a point to a string tree (besides being able to grow your own strings), (( got that in before some other smart a@@ does)) hehe.

As far as I know it is to even the tension over the nut between strings. Without it, the down force would be less on the D and G strings making it possible for those strings to jump out of the nut when played hard.

String trees are usually only on basses with more than two tuning machines to one side of the headstock. Fender and MM are examples. Basses with 2x2 tuners don't have them.

I might also add that tilt back headstocks serve that same purpose. Most 2x2 that I have seen are tilted back. I've seen some 4-in lines like that too. Carvin would be good example.

Yo Gar...

We had one till our wives found out... hehe! That's why Paul was forced to go to Australia...

Pregnant and alone I ran off and joined the Circus... I was the bearded lady for months.. Till it was pointed out that my pregnancy was longer than an elephants... so I went to visit a doctor.. he informed me that my pregnancy was really just too many burgers and way too much beer.. (Paul always knew how to look after me..).

After that I drifted from job to job.. mainly pole dancing for loose change in seedy Go Go clubs.. Then I discovered the internet.. which led to my renewed contact with my mate Paul....

The rest is history or something like that...

Am I rambling ?

One other thing, I am never quite sure what it means when a dude says he was "pole" dancing...
