Business Travel and Boredom

It's only two nights a week but the nights I'm home I get home late; sometimes not until near dark (even with summer light). It seems like I'm always gone and I get extremely bored in my hotel. I'll check the TV but it's usually crap. I watch YouTube on me phone and surf here and TB. I might even browse FB from time to time.

But all that gets old. I do some paperwork but that doesn't take much time. I eat dinner but since I eat alone, well, you get it. I wish I could bring my bass and play through phones but the temps on my truck (no A/C) probably reach the 100°F mark this time of year. I don't feel comfortable taking my bass in the truck for that reason.

I wish I was the type who could sleep about ten hours straight but I'm not. I'm out of ideas. I suppose reading couldn't hurt but when I like a book I can't put it down. I'm afraid I'll spend half a night reading and only get an hour nap before my alarm wakes me at 3am.

Suggestions please? Thanks.

My friend Kevin owned a modulus 5 that he had in his car for an hour long trip during the summer months, and by the time he arrived at his destination it severely warped. Fortunately, modulus replaced the neck for him because it was relatively new. I don't think this is the norm, but it happened.

Even if I trusted a plastic-necked bass, I'd still have a tough time dropping the kind of cash it takes to get one of those things to toss it in my work truck to be bounced around during the day. I don't mind the Spector getting a few dings but these graph-neck sticks are pricey. Honestly, I haven't played a graphite neck that I liked the sound of. I probably haven't played them enough to be fair.

Besides, aren't graphite necks more about tuning stability and weight than warp prevention?

What about getting an ibanez micro and a tascam mp3 trainer. I've seen players on tb upgrade micros and use them as gigging basses. The one guy actually owned some really nice basses too. With the micro and tascam, you can play along to some tunes...

Yeah, a cheapo bass might be the solution. I'll look into those trainers. They sound like a good tool for practice. Were you talking about the MP-BT1?

Yes you have a family to think of, but your much better to them in a relaxed and sane state, than what it seems now.

No offense taken at all. I've had crappy jobs and you're right; no job is worth losing sleep over. I hope that I can find some type of resolution soon. Good jobs are very hard to come by; especially at my education level.
