Business Travel and Boredom

It's only two nights a week but the nights I'm home I get home late; sometimes not until near dark (even with summer light). It seems like I'm always gone and I get extremely bored in my hotel. I'll check the TV but it's usually crap. I watch YouTube on me phone and surf here and TB. I might even browse FB from time to time.

But all that gets old. I do some paperwork but that doesn't take much time. I eat dinner but since I eat alone, well, you get it. I wish I could bring my bass and play through phones but the temps on my truck (no A/C) probably reach the 100°F mark this time of year. I don't feel comfortable taking my bass in the truck for that reason.

I wish I was the type who could sleep about ten hours straight but I'm not. I'm out of ideas. I suppose reading couldn't hurt but when I like a book I can't put it down. I'm afraid I'll spend half a night reading and only get an hour nap before my alarm wakes me at 3am.

Suggestions please? Thanks.

Know how you feel. I travel a lot too.

Most motels here have good cooking facilities so off to the supermarket, nice steak, spuds, bread and salad and perhaps a bottle of Shiraz and I spend 1/2 hr cooking, maybe get through half the wine bottle ( 3 std drinks ) and then relax with my beater bass ( the SX )

I take the SX almost everywhere I go. Yes it suffers the travel, but who cares at the cost really. It goes out of tune regularly, but then again, who cares - that' what the machine heads are for. The SX sounds shit, but I get the practice, keep my chops in order and don't go nuts in the motel. Sometimes I take my Tascam too.

I also take the Kindle for reading and have a range of books on the go at one time ( stops you getting focused on one particular book )

Studying some anti-insomnia techiques is also worthwhile. Getting sleep can be achieved with discipline.

Hope that helps you Bo

Well, former soulmate/best friend, I live in Tyler now; about two hours east of Dallas. My week takes me two hours of driving to get to my first customer on Monday. I stay in a hotel on Monday night and come back home Tuesday night.

On Wednesdays, it's two hours to my first three stops and another 1-1.5 hours to the rest of my customers. Ultimately, by the time my Wednesday is done, I am three hours from home and 1.5 hours from FREEKIN' HOUSTON!!!! Why those customers aren't getting service out of Houston is way beyond what I would consider common sense.

Very close to burn out on this one, bro.

Oh man, that sucks. I remember my father having to do the same when he drove trucks. He always stayed up in Connecticut once a week because he had very early delivery times up there. Does the company put you up, or is it an out of pocket expense?

Just make sure you pay them for services rendered. Everyone saw how testy they can get when they're "stiffed" for payment.
