Getting a good metal tone - fingerstyle!
Hey guys, I've been experimenting for a long time with technique and set up for playing fingerstyle extreme metal.
What is really tricky, is consistency, especially when the low B is given to rattling or buzzing when you're chugging down low.
In the end, after hours of practicing playing the B lightly and raising both the action and the string weight I came to only one conclusion - HIT IT HARD.
Metal lends itself to all kinds of brutality, so I found that playing the lower strings hitting as hard as I can consistently (which in itself is like relearning to play after having your hand cut off) and working with the natural rattle in the lower range rather than trying to hide it gave me a great tone with loads of attack.
Got some pre-release tracks from my band online at www.facebook.com/haerken
Anyone else had a similar journey/come up with other solutions?

I like that, although I have to say it sounds picked.
I did consider doing what may be your solution if this is fingerstyle, lowering the action so I could get a good growl without having to hit hard. In fact, I may still try that - find the balance between energy and longevity!

Ben long time man...good to see you.
Metal...hmmm....ultra steady/consistant index and middle finger is a must.
And most important...a "Look"
