Is AB dying......discuss

Having been less active on here for a while and just popping in and out for a looksee now and again my perception is that there is much less activity on here and has been for a while.

Is this perception or is there less activity, I assume there's a way of finding out.

If the posting count is less, why?

Nipple gate fiasco of last year
People leaving for various personal disagreements
Running out of this to say
Found another site
Focus elsewhere
The credit crunch (blamed for everything else)
Other

For me the fun was taken out of it last year after Nipple gate (don't want to open that topic again) and never seemed to recover. I've not had any major disagreements with anyone in particular (from my side anyway) and this site has been very positive for me both personally and from a bass playing perspective, but it's not quite the old AB IMHO.

Am I wrong? I hope so!

"Dying"? Don't you mean "dead"? No offense to anybody but this site is so outdated...it is bordering on completely irrelevant. S---..today...for literally 150 dollars you can build..get hosted...and network a fully functional flash website...and have it all done in an afternoon.

There are no facebook link-ups...no twitter link ups...no youtube link-ups (im not talking about posting vids)...which should all be available on your homepage and all your friends here should get a message instantly in their mail box. Right now I can post a video to Youtube... and facebook and twitter get the feed. All my friends know instantly something new is going on. If I post something here...it stays here.

I used to love this site...but with all the new functions available on updated sites...this just doesn't compete.

To put it in even greater perspective...Today..I can literally take this site..its template...and store every MP3, lesson, resource, article, post, conversation, track from track builder, line from line builder, credit card transaction, password and homepage from every member who has ever existed..and put it on one flash drive...and still have enough space left over for all of my movies, music and midget porn.

Time for an update AB.

Hahahahahaha! If you'd actually address the argument itself...you would see that my post is completely relevant to the topic.

You all want to be a major resource (which this site could be) and help educate a new group of people? The reality is that people, especially kids, ARE attracted to the bells and whistles..for the same reason most of you were when you where younger. (Because we mistakenly thought "flash" was "being good".

So I'm going to go look at some Jaco videos with 20,000 views and then switch over to Justin Bieber with 60,000,000 views because...obviously...Bieber is the superior musician.

Why don't I "do it myself"? A: Because I'm not the one who made a site in the first place and remain irresponsible to the wealth of information here and the good people here by not updating once every ten years. An updated topic in the fretbuzz forums averaging about once every three months? pfft...If you want all of your hard work on the site tossed out when it cannot sustain itself...keep doing what you're doing.

You guys ask me why "I don't do it"? I went to school for computers...specifically writing code at Brown College in Minnesota...let me see some money and I'll be right there with a team that I went to school with which includes an Emmy winning graphics programmer named Peter West...but site operators have to make that call...not me.

Maybe the site would be better if someone offering constructive criticism wasn't constantly met with ignorant ramblings of certain people who cant see the correlations in a SUBJECT NAMED: Is AB dying? The second you see a post like that you know the boat is sinking.

Look at what happened to our numbers after Youtube caught fire and Facebook caught on. People can send the exact same information from their Facebook pages with much more articulation and reach a vast audience instantly. They can SHOW you what they mean.

So because at least 3 of you think you need to chest pound and say what ever you want in irrational responses to my exacted relevant argument...my response to you three specifically is: F--- off...I'll say what ever the hell I want.

Jay is right, however one must ask a very harsh and simple question if Jay boterman from so and so America can do all this, just imagine what our government security apparatus can do, such as the cia or homeland security, and for that matter what can hardcore hackers do, or for that matter corporate conglomerates can do with all their billions invested in information technology. So I say to all of us, that we have unceromoniously invited the devil into our door, so what I recomend to stop this orwellian tryanny from taking place is smash the mirror of narcisism that is facebook, and whatever else, and take your laptop and smash it, and, in turn write music with paper, sweat, and blood, use an accoustic guitar, or a piano or for gar whittenton, who is rich enought to live in colorado, use a harpsichord there is no electircity and no source of informational residue/ hence all we are doing is transplanting microchips in our brains like dogs.

"rich enough to live in colorado"

Uh...I just came off of being unemployed for for 11 months. Colorado is a great place to live, but being rich is not a requirement. And being the most technilogically advanced or profound is NOT a requirement of AB! This is a family though, much more closely knit than Facebook, Assbook or any of the rest. The wonderful people here have helped me immensly with their solid advice, critisisms and observations. I really do not care if anyone can put this entire place on an iPad. Let them do it if they want.

A place like AB is made up of the people that go there and form the community of that place. Look at the home page for example. How long do you think the news items listed there have been on that page? Years man, years. Does anyone here give a rats a-- about that? No. No more than you would care that every Christmas your father might done the same old worn out sweater and lounge around the place like he owns the place.

Also, one more thing...can I have an upright bass instead of a harpsichord...as I AM a bass player and NOT a keyboardist?

Please Santa?

Yo Gar,

You forgot to mention that your also one of the best bass builders on AB.....

Well anyway.... I'm with you 100% mate I don't give a fart what the site looks like as long as it is fast enough to keep up to date with the gang...

Hey... My car is Colorado red... is there really a red that resembles colorado ??? but anyway that sort of makes us family anyway.....

Leroy

PS.
I wonder how many stone tablets (of average stone tablet size) it would take to store all the information on AB ?

lol...ty Leroy, but need I overstate the obvious hahaha!

You said your car is Colorado red. Allow me to let you in on something. Colorado in Spanish means, uh, erm, well...Color Red. So, when you are saying your car, which I am sure is a splendid machine, is Colorado red, what you are REALLY saying is that it is Color Red red. Which would make your car sorta redundant lol.

Here is another thought I had about this discussion of AB being so tech-challenged. One of my favorite passtimes is going to the movies. I, along with billions of other humans on the planet, really enjoy sitting in a crowded theatre, smelling the popcorn, hearing the laughs, groans, and sounds of the people around me. Seeing the occasional imperfections of the images on the screen. It is a great way to pass a few hours, being taken to another time and place removed from the mundane of everyday life. But a movie theatre is one of the most technologically retarded places to be. Movies have been around for over 100 years, but millions of people still flock to see them every year. And while many bring their cell phones, iPads, tablets, Blueberries and other advanced modern crap with them, they are in the OFF condition during the movie.

And lastly, "I wonder how many stone tablets (of average stone tablet size) it would take to store all the information on AB ? " written in cuniform or ancient crylic?

I would'nt describe my color red , red car as splendid by any stretch of the word... LOL.
But now you've explained the Colorado bit, it's now obvious.....
Good point about going out to watch a movie, My local cinema has B&W nights and it attracts quite an audience of coughing, wheezing, sniffing folk all who are enjoying watching a scratchy film that is older than them..... I love it..

I reckon Cuniform....

Hmm. What makes a site like this relevant, at least

What good, for instance, is a site that does

about? "They give horrible advice there, but at
least the UI is cool!"
