Surprise (Well maybe not)
Did you know that mental illnesses affect 1 in 5 people? The
Canadian Mental Health Association defines mental disorders
as,"Mental disorders are health conditions that are characterized
by alternations in thinking, mood, or behavior (or some
combination thereof) associated with distress and/or impaired
functioning." That mean all of have had or know someone that
had some sort of mental health problems. Why am I posting this?
Glad you asked. First, for 26 years I have had bipolar disorder,
specifically, bipolar 1 with ultradian cycling. That just means that
I am not even a normal bipolar. lol. For me, before medication, it
was wait five minutes and my mood will change. Those that are
around me already know, but others that knew me years ago may
just look back and go "duh". By the way, I was only diagnosed
six years ago. Second thing is that I want to try to bring
awareness to mental disorders and help remove the stigma. We
all know that this can be done. If anyone has any question about
mental health, go to the Canadian Mental Health Associations
website. If you have any question about just how crazy I am, talk
to my wife. Nah, just send me a message.
Peace
Brian

wow, such a ...hmmm...a disclosure! I feel like I have been caught peeking through the keyhole, again.
Seriously though, I have know many people with bipolar disorder, and in my opinion they function better than most people around them. One, my best friend, even owns guns and shoots at the range on a regular basis. Hmmm...perhaps I should rethink going to shoot with him...

The disclosure is because I am tired of thinking of this as a dirty
little secret. I am the only person with bipolar that I know
personally. I'm hoping that one day a person will get diagnosed
with a mental illness and everyone around them will understand and
treat them the same as usual.

I don't treat anyone the same. But...how I treat a person has to do with their character NOT their afflictions. What a boring place the world would be if nobody had these afflictions, conditions, and personalities.

We all have our dirty little secrets but the brave admit them and strive to make them better. Thank you for trusting us to share and know you are not alone. In the past I had issues with and angry and violent temper, long since dealt with but have had issues with anxiety and depression of late. My wife is Bi-polar so we help each other out.

It amazes me how people treat others with mental illnesses. As far
as I go? Medication is a wonderful thing! Stable since May 20.
Sounds like a great tattoo. lol
