Charlotte

Well, I must be adicted, or stupid, or nuts, or all of the above. Even though I got laid off today, I have begun my 2nd Bass build, and I am naming her Charlotte.

Charlotte is going to be a much more symetrical bass in a bit more classic style. She is going to have some surprises though, which I will gladly impart to all of my interested AB bro's and sis's. One big advantage of a symetrical bass is that I only need to make 1/2 a template. Which I have done hehehe. And I took a pic using my new tripod lol:

The thick black line is a centerline I inserted into the pic. Charlotte is going to have a Swamp Ash body, Lace PUP(s) and a Hard Maple neck. I am also going to use a new model Hipshot bridge in either CHROME or BLACK lol.

If there is enough good wood left, you might have a couple options.

Could you make a 6 string guitar with it? Thats usually smaller.

Could you do a sunburst finish, with opaque black paint around the repair areas?

Good luck! and post pics if you can

Charlotte 2.0 is coming along nicely now. I have the neck ordered and it SHOULD ship around the middle of Febuary, maybe sooner (I hope). And hey, guess what? I actually have a pic or two showing yours truly slaving away at the control pocket:

What I like most about this pic is how clearly you can see the fine details of my handsome face!

ok ok...one without the mask:

Don't know if I'd go with scroll work on such a nice grain structure. I might fancy up a plainer piece of wood, but I think she would stand up quite nicely on her own. Just my humble opinion of course.

Griz... ;)

Well, I got the neck in, and it is sooooo nice. The neck I bought was unfinished and undrilled. I put a finish of Tru-Oil on it, about 6 coats. For those not knowing, Tru-Oil is actually gun stock finish, but it is very easy to put on, dries super hard, is easy to maintain, and relatively cheap. PLUS, even though it is technically an 'oil', Warmoth is perfectly happy with its use and it does not void the warranty on Maple necks as other oils do. So I got the neck pocket cleaned out...very happy with my hand-made template. I also got the bridge - by Hipshot. Excellent bridge, solid brass, body-through. Sooooo....here are the prerequesite pics hehehe:

Char_neckonfront01.jpg
obviously a front view. The fretboard is actually Indian Rosewood, I just have it covered with masking tape for protection which is why it looks white.

and the back view.

This is turning out to be a far nicer bass than Betty was. Charlotte looks like she is a mile long! About Wednesday I should be getting one of the PUPS. A bit more sanding and I start a new adventure with her...FRENCH POLISH woohooooooo.
