Using a power amp instead of an integrated amp/preamp

My Eden Traveler looks like it will be replaced soon, and I'm considering using my Line 6 Bass Pod as a pre-amp with a power amp. I rather like the Pod -- it's very quiet and light. I also own it already, which saves $$! But I will likely need more watts. Are there any bi-amp setups with just power amps that anyone's familiar with? Preferably used, as I'm doing this on a limited budget!

Couldn't you just use a pedal/DI and run it into a power amp. I at one time thought about doing this so I'd have an inexpensive set up I could leave at band practice. For instance, I have a Dunlop MXR-80, and almost bought a used Crown power amp.

Is this what your talking about doing, only with a Line 6 Pod?

I don't see why it wouldn't work...? Hopefully someone who's ACTUALLY tried this chimes in...if not, I'd post this question over on Talkbass.

I can't think of anything that would be bi-ampable except for a traditional power amp and you would need some sort of crossover. SWR makes the amplite
but it isn't really all that affordable.

I have a Ampeg half stack that I use for Church, but from time to time would play in garage bands to help keep me more in a learning mood on picking up on new licks. I didnt want to move the Ampeg in and out of the Church. I didnt have a good portable amp that was big enough to produce that watts needed to be heard with the drummers or guitar players. Like you I was on a very limited budget and ended up making a set up, to my surprise it sounded very good and I have gotten a lot of complements on how good it sounded. This is what I did.

Bought a old BBE bass preamp off of ebay, paid around $60:00 for it. Got a Carvin power amp on sale, $150:00. A 4 space rack box from pawn shop, $5:00. A no name bass cab off of ebay, it has 4, 10 inch speakers, $80:00.

The amp is rated at 225 watts @ 8 omhs, 350 watts @ 4 omhs, 800 watts bridged.
The bass cab was rated @ 600 watts.

I play through it in bridge mode and never have to turn it up more than number 4 on the volume. I am heard without over powering anybody else.
