I'm feeling lost.....

I knew this day would come eventually but I feel like I just got punched in the stomach.

My father turned 80 this year and has been in poor health for some time, I just got the phone call that he is riddled with cancer and probably has days to live.

I'm closing up the office to go see him, probably for the last time; but how do you say goodbye to your hero? He taught me how to shave, he taught me how to camp & he taught me how to be a man and a father. I can still see him larger than life in his perfectly pressed uniform and I've seen him become a frail old man.

Sorry for the blubbering but......

I'm sorry to hear this news. Growing old is a cruel
thing to have happen to us. It is especially hard
when we see our loved ones grow old and pass away.
I have no advice to give you, but I will grieve with
you. All of us that have lost one or both parents
will because we know what you are going thru.

That's a hard thing you're going through #ie and
it's perfectly normal to blubber about it.

On the bright side he showed you so many great
things that you in turn can teach and show your
kids and although that will never replace him,
it's something to consider when you are going
through the grief period - it kind of evens the
"tougnhess of the situation" out.

If you haven't already, get to learn about the
grief process well before you truly have to face
it. Understanding that is the key to your sanity
and also the key to keeping the remaining family
relationships intact.

When my first wife died, I never knew about it and
I went through about 15 years of emotional crap
until someone sat down and explained it to me. I
was like a new man straight afterward.

I hope your Dad doesn't have to suffer much before
he departs #ie.

All the best.

so sad to hear this. Try to keep a good thought, and remember nobody dies as long as someone remembers them.
