Is it true ?

Hi Guys,

Surfing the net looking for general fretless tips.
I stumbled on WikiHow...... I read the following,

"Keep a close eye on your neck. Fretless necks warp faster and further than fretted ones do".

Can anyone confirm this ?

I have not experienced this in over 30 years of playing fretless and the over a dozen fretless owned & hundreds of basses that have passed thru my hands.

Yo Brad,

I was taken aback when I read it on WikiHow, sounded hard to believe I've had mine maybe 3 years and it's never moved yet.

Cheers

I can't think of any logical reason why it would. I would like to know the reasoning behind this.

than oh, "authoritative" on some certain subjects,

although your mileage may vary, certainly.

That said, I have heard rumors that one way to
repair overly warped necks is to do a fret job
with ones that have thicker tangs, kinda wedging a
bow into the neck, but this sounds like the stuff
urban legends are made of.

That is the most sensible part of the complete
statement! :)

i know for a fact it does work. it's done to upbowed necks but it doesn't work on all necks.

Brad has nailed it. I haven't had as many
fretless basses as he's had, but my experience is
the same.

Fretting a warped fretless neck to nullify the
warp is a load of dribble too.

The only necks I have had warp are on an old
Ibanez SDGR 804 and an SX jazz - both fretted
necks!
