Best bass combo under $750?
I want to get a combo that could play well with
two guitars with 100 W amps, and a fairly
restrained drummer who can cut loose when the mood
takes him.
Online reviews don't seem to be very useful.
I'm looking at the Marshall MB4210, Acoustic B450,
and Ampeg BA300210.
2x10 speakers are optimal, no 12 or 15's, at least
200W.
And for the record, I'd rather suck a hospital mop
than play a Behringer, Hartke, or Line 6.
As for me, primary axe is a Fender Jag, played
both active and passive, finger and pick; music
style is Americana/Country Rock.
Any opinions?
J

LMAO!! I like ya already, bro!!
I'm not a combo type, but have you considered MarkBass? Ivan on here has good ears & raves about them. Of the listed, I'd go Ampeg, but would definitely want to rent one for a gig before committing.
2 guitars in 100W amps has me wondering how loud. Are they the types who've discovered their volume controls also turn counter-clockwise?

I'd want to look at the GK MB210 when they start shipping (http://www.gallien-krueger.com/preview.html) 350W - 8Ω/500W - 4Ω, 2 10in Neo speakers and under 40lbs and priced around $600
Haven't heard one yet......
I can't comment on the others as I've not played them yet.

That GK sounds like a win, I'll have to go out and
play one (nearest GC 70 miles, but I don't want to
buy from them)

Try out the MarkBass minicombo 2X6. Did I just say 2X6????? Seriously - a friend of mine was playing one at a medium sized club last year (blues/classic rock band) - and it sounded stupid good. I couldn't believe it. Maybe 150 watts? Maybe 250? Now, I didn't run right out and buy one - so it didn't sell me completely. But, the point is, don't pass up the chance to try it out just because of its size. I think they're right at $750 if memory serves.

I haven't heard THAT model of GK, but I love the GK 800RB, with GK head, so I'm sure that would be a great combo.

I think the Ampeg that Todd is referring to is the Micro VR head and SVT210AV cabinet (couldn't find a Mini SVT). It looks impressive, and if Todd wants one, well, it must be good. There are five reviews on Musician's Friend that are all great reviews. $599 for head and cab for 150 watts or add a second cab for the full 250 watts. Todd, I'm with you; I want one too!

Bros I have a mirco svt head with 2 2-10 cabs, first bought it with one cab great sound liked it so much i bought a 2 cab. you have to have 2 2-10 cabs to get the full wattage. very small package and light weight if you want good sound and move around this might be your ticket small footprint and no backpains from pickin it up
will fit in a small car for transport
good luck with your quest
