I Don't Like This Ride! It's Too Scary!

Im trying to help a cocaine addict get clean. I didnt ask for this nor do I want it. Im just trying to help a friend here. She says she cant go to rehab or she will lose her job. She has a REALLY good job! She thought she had hit rock bottom with it but I didnt have the heart to tell her what she was through with it was no where NEAR rock bottom! But all things aside the reason Im posting this is because yesterday she was talking suicide. We were texting back and forth:

Im having thoughts that I dont want to be here anymore. that life is too damn hard

I gave her a little tough love in return.

Life is the greatest gift you have ever been given! How could you think of doing that to your Mother?! Life is hard, get a *expletive removed* helmet.

I take this threat seriously because I have personally seen it followed through on in the past. I told her it was time to go see a counselor. She could do that without putting her job in jeopardy. Im not sure if she will or not. I dont think she has the will to make it through this. But, if you have some advice to offer Im all ears. PM me or email me (my email address is on my homepage) if you dont want to post it.

Thanks,

Dave

A counselor that specializes in drug addiction is highly recommended. The law protects her thru Dr/Patient confidentiality - and if it is ever "leaked" out or compromised, she can sue for damages (not that this would be a good thing considering her circumstances). But, either way - she CANNOT be fired, if she is actively seeking professional help. She needs professional help and they can surround her with those who have been there and know what she is experiencing first hand.

Thanks Ivan. This week she has a day off work. I told her the one thing I wanted her to do on her day off is find a counslor. I'll make SURE that happens this week.

She won't go. Saturday when I talked to her she was at least somewhat open to the idea of counseling. After talking to her last night her mind is made up that she won't talk to a counselor or anyone other than me and two close family members.

I believe they'd be online as well. That's about as safe & anonymous as it'll get. It'd also offer resources, techniques, distinctions, etc. Even in person, talking likely isn't required.

No point right now though; she's walled off damn near completely. (BTW, incredibly good job at staying inside that wall!!!)

Biggest thing I got early in a similar program was the sense of not being alone in having a problem. For some reason, that made it a lot easier to face myself.

She doesn't know me, but I send her my very very best.

I checked out CA "Cocaine Anonymous" online. But, it only does good if someone is willing to go. Her mind is made up and nothing I can say is going to change it. But, it's OK I did a lot of thinking about this and I got this thing. Here's what I have to do:

1. Get my balls back under me and quit being such a sissy about the whole thing.

2. I understand that I hold someone's life in the balance and accept that responsibility. If she O.D.'s or wacks herself it's my fault.

3. Because of #2 failure is not an option.

4. Apply the same hard headed Italian determination to this that has got me over other difficult hurdles.

I got her.... I won't let her fall.

Thanks for the kind words I appreciate it.

Dave, you have power beyond many. I am still agog at you gigging with your arm problem, & am sure I can't name another bassist who wouldn't have called in a sub.

But "If she O.D.'s or wacks herself it's my fault" is an exceptional amount of responsibility. Possibly not humanly possible.

Bro, I know you won't let her fall. With everything in your power, & further that you'll tool up even more for this. But I do ask you build yourself a BLOODY good support network, just in case things go bad.

That's why I posted it for a little help and advice. I took everything everyone said and thought it through. What I posted is what I believe needs to be done by me to help her get clean and stay clean.

I never hit a woman my whole life! This is going to be the ultimate test as to if I can still say that a year from now! Because I am ready to punch this b---- in the head!!! I'm a glorified baby sitter for a full grown woman!

I'm not human I'm Italian. The same rules don't apply for me. I meant what I said. I always do!

I would like to hear one person just ONE damn person tell me a good story about illegal drugs! I want to hear someone tell me how drugs improved their lives. How illegal drugs have made them a better person. What a wonderful experience it has been for their family and friends ANYONE?!?!?! I promise you this if anyone has such a tale of how wonderful drugs are I'll have ten bad stories to tell how they aren't!!

I have to go back to work and calm down now. I'm stressed and p---ed off! The left side of my face is numb and my vision is starting to blur!

I'll be posting on here next March how this selfish drug addict is now a good person and still clean.

Dave, venting is FINE.

Feel free to PM me if needs be; around something like this what you need to express might not de-profanitize enough for a public post.

Yeah, but it's site that went through NippleGate.

What I meant was that sometimes a proper expression involves or even requires profanity, & The Rules aren't into that on a public post.
