Ibanez Musician Bass
Anyone have any experience with this bass? I played a used one that has been pretty much torn apart (electronically) and just beat to crap and the guy wants $500 for it which Im definitely not going to pay but they seem to sell frequently on ebay for like $200-$300. The one I played was neck through and had a great feel to it, why are they so cheap used, just unpopular? I mean, it was heavy as hell, sure, but I'm a big guy and my Spector is pretty hefty so I wouldnt mind the weight. Just wondering if anyone knows anything about these basses/has any experience with them. Thanks.

I've been playing an Ibanez Musician for years. I used to play Fender Precisions for years until I got ichy for something different. Played Yamaha for a while and then G&L's until I came upon a used 1982 Musician in a music store. I think it's the best bass I've ever owned. It is heavy but well balanced. The neck (neck through) is just fabulous and the pickups sound great. It has active circuitry as well with a toggle switch to toggle between active and passive sound. I think this bass is a sort of classic, way ahead of it's time. If I were selling mine, I would probably ask between five and six hundred. If I were trying to buy one in good shape, (mine is) I would hope to get one for about four hundred. I've got a Ibanez Doug Wimbish signature model (DWB3) ordered and can't wait for it to get here. I'm just hoping that after I spend all this money that I will like the new bass as well or better than my Musician which I will NEVER sell.

I think you may be mistaken when you say that you see Ibanez Musicians on Ebay for $200-300. Even older musicians will sell for about $400-500. I owned an 85 musician and I kick myself in the rear everyday for having sold it long ago. A musician in good shape will sell for at least $600.

it could go from $600 to $1200, depending on the condition, age, electronics, wood combinations...

but i think $500 is pretty high for a worn-out ibanez musician...
if i were you, i'll try to cut down the price if the neck and the hardware is still in good condition, then repair/replace the electronics....
it will be a waste to let it pass and not buy it...
it's the wood that always sing in any stringed instruments and an old wood always resonates better.
