I'm looking to purchase a low end Hofner copy. Im trying to decide between Rogue, Douglas, Brice, and Jay Turser. I'm leaning heavily towards the Jay Turser at this point. Any info/ suggestions on any of these models? Thanks in advance.

The Jay Turser is probably going to be your best bet. We have two of them in the music store where I work part time. While not great (IMO), they get the job done. The Rogue ... stay away from that one!

What a horrible looking bass....sorry(just my dumb-a-- opinion)- never been a fan. I wouldn't be surprised if all 3 brands were made in the same plant. I'm not a Beatle fan....perhaps that's why I don't like it, however my current band is playing 3 Beatles covers.

Sorry Mike, but the price is way too much for what you're getting. In your case it's fine, but when they want $2500 for the high end model, I just don't think it's worth it.

I also feel that $2500 US is too much for what it'd do for me, but Mike seems to have a different opinion.

Why not give one a try sometime Rog, if you see a used one going for stupid cheap? I don't think their sound is 'you' & the spacing might not work, but they are an interesting angle at 'electric bass'.

(Actually I'm awaiting you posting about buying a Ric.)

I've actually tried one of the budget ones, and it wasn't for me. If I were ever to buy a hollow body it would be a Jack Cassedy Ibanez....that one played nice, and had a nicer appearance....imo.

I've had Rics before, not sure they are for me. I think I'd once again buy a Jazz or P bass before getting a Rick. I still think that hands down, they are one of the most attractive basses ever made.

I'm posting a couple of pictures of my new basses in the equipment forum. I picked up a sweet Stingray...Dargie Daelight II. They are limited edition, and come with color shift paint, ebony fret board and custom inlays. Probably a bit much $$$-wise, because it sounds identical to the other Stingray I have with the same pickup configuration.

I like what they do, though I don't have much application for it. I've yet to take anything 335-like for a spin; sometime.

With ya on Rics. I've seen better looking basses (boutique with exotic woods is hard to beat IMO) but the Ric just has a classy & sassy style. Great in that bright blue, & there's a local bassist who has a chocolate brown one with an unlined ebony looking fingerboard; sweeet!

I'm about the same in emsemble, but it's a hoot when solo.
