Been a while since I posted a new bass on here(what 2-3 momths maybe?). I have a couple of new ones I picked up around the holidays. The first is a 2009 Dargie Delight II Slo Special Stingray. What makes it different from other Stingrays is that it has a color shift paint job which is called "caramel apple." It shifts from a green under normal lighting conditions to a golden color under bright or flash lighting. I have pictures of both shades to show the difference. Another difference is that it has an ebony fretboard and custome abalone/mop inlays. The neck is a Slo Special, which is the thinner Musicman Sterling neck. It has the dual pickups with the 5 way selector switch, making it a very versatile StingRay. The pickguard is a clear pickguard(it came w/a black pg), with a zebra design I cut to fit beneath it.
This is my creme de la creme of basses I've ever owned.
The next one up is my Musicman Bongo in Desert Gold. This bass may not be a favorite amongst many....because of it's radical appearance. Many have dubbed it the "Toilet Bowl." The funny thing is that even the guys on the Ernie Ball forums joke about it. The Bongo despite it's differences is amazingly comfortable to play, hangs perfect on a strap, and has amazing tonal variety. 18 volt preamp, 2 Humbuckers, pickup blend, 4 band eq (low, high, lo-mid, hi-mid). I prefer the look of my Stingrays, but actually prefer the sound of the Bongo...

I wonder when Ball will decide to put a Bongo pre in a Stingray or Sterling? Hmmm, perhaps a thread on the EB forum?

I wonder why they haven't down that either. I love that Slo models though....having the thin neck reminds me of my old Jazz necks. The Bongo is closer to an SR neck. |

Totally agree. The Bongo was one of the best basses I played when in the USA. I certainly would not mind owning one and much preferred the playability and tone to the Stingray. |

Thanks Mo.
Yes, it's a different animal than my StingRays. I wish the neck was unfinished, and had a bit of a smaller body, but it's still very comfortable. I'm amazed at how well it can somewhat mimic a P bass. What other great basses did you play on your trip to the USA? Anything exotic? |
