Going forwards in jumps and leaps, and occasionally standing still or even going a bit backwards, I think... It nothing magical, it just has to do with how much time I spend with the bass...

Yes, there are two main things that helped this happen:

1) I spent some time with a great teacher - it makes a world of difference.

2) Playing with a band - gives you a solid reason to practice and when you're playing with guys far more talented than yourself it raises the bar.

Exactly what Morten said, putting time into it, and the 2 points given by Brian: teacher + band.

The simple formulae I always used was:
1 band practice = 10 solitary practices
1 gig = 10 band practices

Not sure how a teacher fits into this, I never used one as badly as I have and do need to. Soon I will...

No, I am not. Too torn between the guitar parts and the recording process. What I need to do is stop recording and playing the guitar for a couple of months, and just play and enjoy the basses, concentrating more on the fretless. I spent time with it yesterday, and it was really nice.

Yes, I think so.
1. One of my regular gigs is exclusively on fretless bass, so I am strentghtening my hands and improving my intonation.
2. My personal practice time is on playing melodies, writing and improvising melodically.
3. I am spending a lot of time wearing a 'producers' hat and it is allowing me to step out of my players head and listen even closer than usual to the whole picture.
