Seems I have a little Viking ancestry...

I participated in the National Geographic Genographic project and I just got my results. I'm a haplogroup U5.

U5s first appeared around 15000 years ago in and around the Caucasus in central Russia. They migrated north to northern Europe and Scandanavia, especially Finland.

Since my recent ancestry, as far back as I know, is English the most likely scenario is I have a female ancestor who was part of the various Viking occupations of the British Isles.

I like to think she looked like this...

So I've ordered my hat

and bass

Now I just need to know what Vikings drink? Any of you Scandanavian bassists have some suggestions?

Did any of you participate in the Genographic project? If so what was your ancient ancestry? Were there any surprises.

Paul,
My mother's maiden name was Swedenborg.I always pictured myself going to the old country and finding a viking maiden such as the one pictured here.I didn't make it tho.
I think the drink of choice is something made from Elk?

well i know a little of my recent ancestry. My family were Army based in India from the late 1800's. an army surgeon adopted a little girl from an orphanage in Goa. she was of mixed race, Indian/portugese. when she grew up she married into the army, the man being Welsh. Her daughter married an Irishman. They had two daughters and a son. one of the daugters was my grandmother. the family moved to Burma, where my Father was born in 1937. in 1938 he arrived in the UK.

think that kind of makes me some sort of mongrel mutt!

Yo Mr. Hawk,

According to the Brainy people that know things and make statistics, they reckon all humans came from Africa.... so that makes us all brothers...... Yahoo!!!

You've got it right Clifton. As Leroy points out we're all brothers if we look back far enough. We all share a common, East African, 'mother'.

Too bad we can't convince everyone on the planet. That would do a lot of good.
