It's true that the Earths magnetic field does reverse from time to time. However, the time between reversals ranges from a few tens of thousand years to a few million years.

It's also true that the Earths field is declining in intensity suggesting a reversal is due. There are also magnetic anomolies present that also suggest a reversal is due.

We cannot yet make any accurate prediction as to how soon it will happen. The reversal will most likely be soon in geological time but that could be anywhere from tomorrow to a few thousand years. Best estimates range from 3000 to 4000 CE.

As for your bass pup, don't worry. The field is billions of times stronger than the Earths field (at the distance of the strings). A magnetic reversal won't affect your output.

Worse case = swapping basses with an Austrailian or New Zealander.

Worry about it after you make it through the theorized cosmic ray onslaught the pole flip will permit.

I reckon if we all just wrap ourselves in aluminium foil and hide under the bed we'll be ok ....... or .......
