Easier??????? They are two very different basses. One being passive (Fender) and Stingray (active). As far as easier not sure what you mean. The sounds are very different. Necks may play close to the same, as far as width wise. Bodies are close in design. What kinda of sound are you looking for???? DSon

Just about any bass can get you that sound. Its all
in your style of playing and your tone.

Ivan's right the new guy in Incubus plays a Lakland Bob Glaub with a jazz width neck 1 1/2" which is thier PBass copy. The first guy I think played a custom more than likely active bass. Ibanez basses have nice thin necks also. A Fender PBass has a wider neck. Don

I'm not sure what you mean by easier but the modern C profile of a p-bass is not chunky (nor is it as fast as you'd find on an Ibanez)

EQing a p-bass is simple - you have volume & tone, with active electronics you have more knobs to deal with but you also have more options.

Either one would be a great choice.

Nearly identical. Thumb-resting on a pickup might give a tiny amount of difference.

Try them both & go for the one that feels (when set up for YOU) & sounds the best.

I enjoy the stingray sound and playability however I am one of those who rest my thumb on the pickup. The stingray pickup is too close to the bridge for my liking. Go with what you feel comfortable with.

Again - not sure about easier - once you get used to a particular set-up, it probably becomes easier by default. The SR has a thicker, rounder neck profile while the p-bass is a little flatter front to back (even though it is called a C profile) (think basball bat vs. 2X4). In terms of fretboard width, the SR is 1.625" and the B neck version of the P-Bass is also 1.625" - but the P-Bass is also available as a C neck (not to be confused with a C profile) which is 1.75" (the '57 reissues are all C necks, while the majority of new P-Basses are B necks) (as an aside, the Fender A neck is 1.5" and is what you typically find on jazzes - though the rare P-Bass may also have a factory A neck).

In terms of right hand consideration - I use the p'up as a thumbrest on both - but I found the SR p'up acts as sort of a limiter as to how far my fingers can dig in (kinda like the "ramp" on some Ibanez models) while the P-bass invites me to dig in more. Advantages to both.

There are incredible P-Bass players and incredible SR players. Both sound great in their own regard. You'll learn to love whiichever one you get.
