I'm playing with a guitarists who's written some nice hip songs but he doesn't know exactly what chords he is playing. He knows what the bass note is but he can't tell me if its an inversion or not or exactly what key. I feel like I'm trying to crack a code here. How can I tell what the key is and understands what the chords are functioning as in regards to the key or tonal center
