Left Hand - What's your pinky up to?

Hey all, I'd like to see what everyone else's left
hand technique looks like, specifically the
placement of the pinky when NOT in use. I was
looking through some gig pics, and apparently when
I'm not using my pinky (for instance, playing a
minor pentatonic scale up the neck a bit, starting
on the A string,) I have a tendency to hook my
pinky back towards my palm. Looks bad, imo, and
probably doesn't help my playing either. I've been
trying to hold it next to my ring finger while
playing, and I've been trying kind of a pseudo
upright technique, keeping four fingers within the
space of three frets. Anyone else do the same
thing? Anyone break the habit?

Yep, I do it too at times. But, it depends on the ring finger. If it is bent hard that's when I curl the pinky. Never when the ring finger is extended that I am aware of. That feels really unatural to me.

Mine flails around like wet dog.. like the rest of the fingers! .. Seriously though, When it's not muting strings or pushing a fret, I'm just happy it isn't trying to cut itself off.

Not cutting itself off.

bass
It's usually muting a string or two here.

And somewhere in there it pushes a fret.

Lol, yeah the guy playing the guitar works there. It's his dad's body shop. It's really cool cause they've got some nice old cars in there too but the acustics suck!

Lol, yeah it's all echoey. It's rubbish really. When we roll up the doors and play with everything facing outside it sounds LOTS better! .. Not sure what the neighborhood behind us thinks though! =P
