She must be a keeper....

Well I'm sure some of you saw the sweet Aria P bass I purchased last week. Well, I get home from work today and there is a little card on the table.
I open it up and start reading, and you wouldn't believe what it said....

My girlfriend informed me that she sent out my Guitar Center credit card payment for $300 to cover the expense of the bass. How sweet is that!?!

She said that since my birthday is next month, she couldn't think of a better gift to get me.

Of course, she said I CAN'T sell it...AND...it's name has officially become "Sylvester" the bass.

Mine was a Jazz bass, and I happened to go with Active EMG's that came with pole peices for the vintage look.

If it's a P bass, I've always liked the SD quarter pounders. I just put one in my Aria, but haven't played it too much....it was BBQ and movie time, by the time I finished assembling it. But having used it a couple of times before, I can't complain.

If you love mids, without the thumpy p bass sound, you could always try the Dimarzio will power middle. I swear it reminded me of a cross between a p bass and rickenbacker when the highs were at full blast.

I understand the shy thing completely. As hard as this is going to be to believe at one point in my life I was painfully shy! Only someone who is shy can know how it feels. Luckily for me some women find this trait endearing. Otherwise I may be in an internet argument right now about just how close the Enterprise could get to the sun before the shields gave out with Captain Kirk in charge.

It's easy to sit in the dugout and watch a guy strike out and say "That's why I don't get up to bat". It's embarrassing, frustrating, and even humiliating. But, what of the hero who knocks it out of the park? Think he's never struck out? I know that you know these things but sometimes we just need reminded of them. Sometimes we just need a little push to say "swing the bat". If you get a pitch in the strike zone swing at it! It's better to go down swinging than to let one pass you by! It's like anything it takes practice. The more you practice the better you get. But you get no where if you never step up to the plate.

You are a musician you already have an edge. USE IT! Women love musicians! There are women out there for the brooding moody artistic type to the spandex makeup wearing glam boy. Don't feel you have to live up to their expectations. Let them know that they have to live up to yours! Women love confidence, be confident, not cocky! Turn the tables and make HER have game. It doesn't all fall on you. Always remember, the more beautiful a women is on the outside the uglier she is on the inside. Don't be intimidated by beauty they are horrible people. Whereas you are a good man, with a good heart, and hold a greater degree of intellect. Why would such a beast intimidate you?

Swing the bat Dave! Just swing the freeking bat!

Fact #1: You are a freeking idiot when it comes to women! I know this because I am your King..... the King of idiots when it comes to women.

Fact #2: To you basses are like black market prostitutes. Sure you enjoy them while you have them but you sell them off to the highest bidder. You hold no sentimental value like some of us do.

Fact #3: This woman already knows fact #2 about your personality.

Fact #4: Now you own a bass that you can't sell! Furthermore she has tried to attach a sentimental value to it and even named it!

Fact #5: See fact #1!

Fact #6: ALL women have been trampled on by the male equivalent of the evil woman! Always remember there are three sides to every story. You are hearing one side! A very BIASED side if you are lucky!!!!

Fact #7: You want to be in a relationship.

Fact#8: You name a damn bar near your home and a time you would like to meet after 7:30 p.m. this week on any day but Tuesday and I'll be there! I'M BUYING!

Take nothing more from this woman other than sex! It's just going to come back and bite you in the ass! Again... gifts are given WITHOUT condition! You will hear about this so called gift in the future, I PROMISE YOU THAT!!! This woman is playing you like a damn fiddle!

My singer's current girlfriend (the previous one
is the mother of his child) gave him for his
birthday a full set of drums. We (the band) are
lucky she did, as our drummer has not been coming
to practise lately, and has disappeared from the
world (yesterday I got second hand information
about him from a fellow bass player). So our
singer sings (which he does very well) and plays
drums (he only keeps the tempo if he is singing,
which luckily is in all songs).

Even 'worse', she comes to band practise every
friday and is now singing chorus. Which is good
for us too, our singer can do it very well in
Judas Priest's normal songs, for example, but he
doesn't reach the highest octaves that the Metal
God did. So she does that part. She still hasn't
been 'officially' accepted in the band. If she is,
she'll pay her part of the practice room rental.

So for now, in this case, good for us. I do see
some possible problems in the future, but hey, we
have a drummer problem (we are in the point of
thinking about searching for a new one) to solve
first, so ...

Uh oh!!

What I'm used to is the band decides on the need for a new member, & then on the new member.

Off the cuff, I can think of more reasons this is a bad idea than I have basses.

Biggest:
* What happens if they break up?
* What happens with gig pay?
* Who helps cary the subwoofers & wrap the cables?

Let me tell you tale ..........

Some 12 or 13 years ago my father re-married after my mother died and his new wife picked an atrocious band to play at their reception.

Fast forward to their 10th anniversary party and they hired the same band and you know what.....they were worse!

Why you may ask.......because one of the band members had married & his wife became one of the vocalists. I can still hear the echoes of the coyotes howling when she sang.........

Moral of the story, spouses & girlfriends/boyfriends are NOT band members; beer fetchers certainly, roadies maybe but not band members.

That's cool Bruce.

I've seen some singers who can sing. Perhaps you guys can invest in a wireless headset-mic for him to use.

The drummer in our old band used to do about 75% of our backups....harmonies too!!
