Damn! How did I miss Andy Rourke? Also lets not forget Mike Mills from Rem he is fantastic on bass and Vocal Harmonies. Even if you don't like them he has some seriously under rated talent.

Also what is any ones thoughts on Mike Gordan?

While Flea gets all the plaudits Larry Graham and Louis Johnson still dont get enough as far as slap n pop is concerned. Some fine players who get even less attention
Anthony Jackson - it was he who came up with the classic line on 'For the love of money' by the O Jays
Stuart Zender - so Jay Kay may be a bit of a c*ck but and Jamiroquai's music a bit bland but there's no doubting Zenders bass work on the early stuff
Paul Jackson - most well known work being on Herbie Hancock's 'Headhunters'
Johnny Flippin - groovemeister for The Fatback Band, loads of tasty lines
Norman Watt Roy of The Blockheads - surely the bassline on Ian Dury's Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick is now a classic?
Matthew Seligman - ex Soft Boys but check out his stuff on Thomas Dolby's 'Flat Earth' album esp the track 'Hyperactive.

All the bassists for AC/DC are way underrated.

Bruce Thomas from Elvis Costello and the Attractions came up with
consistently cool lines - he was really the "lead" instrument of the
group (esp. on the more bouncy pop stuff).
