JPJ bass

ok so...

I have a geddy lee signature which i have been using for the last 6 months or so.

I thought i would get used to it, but i still feel awkward playing on either pickup. It seems i like to be inbetween the two( for string tension, sound, everything).

I thought about putting in a simple little thumb rest...but...
I thought maybe i could buy some nice Precision pickups and put them in between the two J's, and then have a thumbrest, an extra pick and a JPJ bass!

Has anyone ever done this before?

Tom

you need the willis wedge. a block of wood which fits between the two pickups and acts as a thumb anchor anywhere you want and it also helps in keep you from digging in too much. same idea as a thumb rest though. i don't think i'd put another pup in the bass if i were you. all you reall need is a strip of wood between the pups big enough to put your thumb on.

Never tried one, 'cause they only come in 4 strings, but I LOVE Stu Hamm's tone. And you're right..."sweet bass".

I like the maple fretboards as well. I got away from them for awhile, but I do like the low end being very clean...not muddy. My jazz with the rosewood fretboard actually has nice mids and a lot of snap as well, but not like my p and stingray.

I don't know how it might sound. But sounds like a tempting idea :)

Well then, old stuey hamm thought of it first. I wonder how it sounds?? any idea?

For the record, i cut a piece of wood out sprayed it black and glued it on. It works a treat, but maybe one day i can put a white set of vintage dimarzios in between the two!

Hi,
i'm new to active bass and consider it much better and informative than various other forums in various countries.
As far as i know, Jimmy Earls own a Jazzbass mit the puck up combination you would like to have in your bass. Maybe give him a call and ask which pickup will suit your needs.
Cheers
