I've one. Fiddle (pardon the pun) with it every now & then, & sometimes it's a handy tool when I'm blocked at un-busying a bass line.

My plan was to be able to gig it in 10 years. 7 to go.

Most of tha active double bass players seem to congregate over at TalkBass. I learned to play on an upright but only play it occasionally when I really have to, too high a pain dividend.

I learned to play on upright. Went to electric exclusively for 25 years, and picked it back up a couuple of years ago. It's interesting the perspective you get from playing double bass v bass guitar.

i know, seems like the easiest riffs to play on electric is hard to play on a double bass. ive been working on using a bow, i just cant seem to see how people can use these things and be in perfect pitch every time they switch between strings. and man a bow hurts my wrist and thumb muscles!!!

cool thing about a bow though, is after you feel the burn from it , pick up an electric bass, man it feels like your shredden!!!:^)

Cool, I've always wondered what its like to play the double bass but never tried it. It would be interesting to play with a bow.

I play double bass.
I also play electric......but mostly when I'm trying to work out a line
or rhythm. they are somehow easier on the electric.
But, I just am absolutely in love with the sound of of a double bass.
The electric sound is fun, but the double bass sound gives me
chills.

Euh, I do, playing in a rock-a-billy band it's a necessety, I find it easier to play than electric and you don't get shoved in a dark corner of the stage with it

I have a half-sized double bass and now I'm trying to grow up for it.:DD

Are you familiar with Esperanza Spalding? She plays a standup from time to time, and a Jazz Bass. I was able to see her concert 2 years ago - well before she got the Grammy. Now its hard to get tickets! But at least she is doing well.
