I already got some feedback from some great musicians and they said It is top notch but needs alittle more explaining so everybody can understand it.

I guess it is not interesting enough. Well I posted enough to keep the ones who are interested busy for awhile.

Take care,

I was tryin' to dig it at work, and I think that you were showing how to play a minor line over a major chord, and you showed how they sounded if you stacked em together. Please enlighten me with the deeper and shadowy underpinnings of this lesson.

I asked my teacher the same thing and he told me not to think too technical but if you wanted to know the the basics of why this works.
(Always when using a three-part chord action based on the ii-V7-I progression the ii is the Sub-Dominant to the V7 and the V7 is the Dominant to the I which is always called the Tonic (root).)
That is all I was told besides practicing the ear to hand connection.

The cool thing about it is the first 4 lessons I put the notes in arpeggio order. The last two lessons 5 and 6 I mixed up the scale steps and on #6 I used double chord measures. ;)

That's cool, I like what your mentor has to say. I am SO not technical when it comes to improv, I try to let my ear do the walkin' so to speak and I'll figure out what I've done later. I think a lot of music education in the schools is backward. They teach notes and theory first, as if music emanates from it. Music comes first as an experience and then it can be identified for learning and recreating.

I agree Barney. I am guilty sometimes of looking too deep into the theory thus making it more complicated for myself. I heard a quote that went something like this.
By legendary jazz bassist Charles Mingus:
"Anyone can make the simple complicated. Creativity is making the complicated simple!"

Dan. I listened to your Autumn Leaves composition.

Its a really cool laid back vibe that I can imagine the likes of Ella Fitzgerald (RIP) sining a tune to.

Improv almost sounds as if there is a discord happening there in places. It sounds like this type of structure would be used in the breakdown of a song as opposed to the main melody line.

My theory is very limited though.

I think I know what you are talking about. I used a Db7 in measures 5,13 and 17 instead of a F# half diminished. Listen to my mp3 at soundclick.com/gabwell

I mainly do instrumentals. But currently I am working on 4 rock tunes for a friends band and he has lyrics. I am only doing the Basslines for him. We will be recording next month.
