Music for the sin bin
This morning as I woke up early I thought I'd surf the dial on my DAB radio to check out what was on some of the rock stations as a change to my normal listening. I tuned in and there they were, many of the same old hoary 'classics', one after another. IMO it's high time they banned certain tunes due to chronic overplay and fired whoever makes the playlists. Definitely for the sin bin then ->
Born to be wild, Silver machine, Smoke on the water, Rock n roll (Zep), Wonderwall, Dont fear the reaper, Alright now, Brown sugar, Wont get fooled again, Radar love, those 2 hits by Focus, Carry on my wayward son, More than a feeling, Show me the way (Peter Frampton), The Joker, Freeeeeeebird and Sweet home Alabama, Layla and Cant get enough of your love for starters. it's not that these are bad songs just that overfamiliarity will certainly breed contempt.
Whaddya reckon? WHAT ELSE FOR THE SIN BIN?

I would be eternally grateful if my local "classic rock" station never played anything by Queen, Elton John, Triumph, Def Leppard and a few others. I don't know what they're thnking when the design the play lists, there's so much good music out there that they don't need to keep playing the same 150 or so songs over & over & over.....

Agreed. Planet Rock canes Def Leppard to def (hem hem)or rather just the Hysteria album. Even with other big name acts like Floyd, Zep, Springsteen,REM and U2 most stations tend to rotate their best known half dozen tunes. Until recently I never cared for Floyd much because the 'hits' from Dark Side, Wish you were here and the Wall are shoved down our lug'oles morning, noon and night. The other day I heard Meddle and blimey it's pretty good but I've ever heard any of the tracks on the radio

My all time favorite group is AC/DC, but definatley one of my least favorite songs by them happens to be the most radio friendly, " You Shook Me All Night Long". I would not care if I ever heard that song again.

The real shame is, most of these groups had a pretty good run, producing lots of good listenable music. Why do we just get these same cuts? Steppenwolf also had Magic Carpet Ride, Deep Purple did "The Shield", why can't we hear Under My Thumb, or Paint It Black? The Who's song The Real Me is a bass bonanza. I'd love to hear Savoy Truffle or Old Brown Shoe.
But only occasionally.

what really really gets to me is these manufactured "Bands" you know the ones....they couldnt play one chord of their number one single on any instrument....they cant sing with out an auto-tune button....but there recognised as being sexy and cool!! well...to the young ones that they market towards anyway..oh..and showing off yer bum or boobs is way more important for sales..."i know.....stick a video onto the single" (says a money hungry producer or wotever)
dont know if thats such the case in America...but here in Britain our charts and radio stations are full of these boy n girl bands...parading and possing in their videos

Oh yeah! It's the exact same thing here in the states...Britney is a star...she is adored and loved and followed by the press and she is, in fact, a drunk driver, child abuser and neglector, ect...and she is put up on a throne like she is royalty...makes me want to puke.
