I'm not quire sure what you wants, but e.g. you can play a 2 octave f major scale this way:

just move it further up the neck to get another major scale.

And what fretboard-instrument players like us should try, instead of just finding one pattern and shifting it all over the neck as needed, is to play the same scale/mode in on position. For instance, put your fretting hand in 'first position' (index on 1st 'fret', 2nd on 2nd, 3 on 3, 4 on 4). Play an E major scale, one octave, starting on the open string, without shifting your hand. Do the same for F major, in the same position. Then Gb major, G major, Ab major, then A major (next open string).. keep going, once you get to C you'll have to start shifting just on the G string. Eventually you can do G major entirely on the G string, and keep going. Then try doing them all 2 octaves. Try other scales/modes.

Why not make your own man?
You've got your strings:
G:Ab/A/Bb/B/C/Db/D/Eb/E/F/Gb/G/..
D:Eb/E/F/Gb/G/Ab/A/Bb/B/C/Dd/D/..
A:Bb/B/C/Db/D/Eb/E/F/Gb/G/Ab/A/..
E:F/Gb/G/Ab/A/Bb/B/C/Dd/D/Eb/E/..
(only went up to 12 frets, but you get the picture..)
Then you know the notes in the scale you want to play, so just find the patterns that work on the neck..

hey nick, i can follow you, cos that's what i had in mind, however i was a bit lazy and asked if there was already some type of 'standard' pattern which traversed the whole fretboard. anyways thanks, i'll try that out

Try your music store. I've had a poster from Mel Bay fro years that shows the scales and modes in two octaves.

I know they are online.
