Could this be perfection?

A year back I bought a Fender CIJ 75 RI lefty J bass in vintage white with a maple fingerboard. I had never attained such a level of comfort with a bass before this one. The pick ups were the USA Vintage, and on that particular bass, though the mids were very strong, the bottom end sounded too boxy and the top end was lacking the bight that I like (that for example a StingRay has).

I looked through the bass player J Bass replacement pick ups blow out and eventually went with the Dimarzio DP149CR, the standard J bass replacements but cream in color (very 80's LOL)!!.

I picked the bass up on Friday after they were fitted and I am in heaven. The bottom end is full and round (boxiness is gone), the mids a little less omni-present, and the top end is so tight for pops, but not overpoweringly so. Could this be perfection (the bass, not my playing LOL!!)?

Being a lefty, I have been through I don't know how many basses over the years to find "my bass", you know the second wife kind a bass :-)). I am in Lurrrrvvveee at last....wife says i pay more attention to my Fender than to her though...hehe

I am glad to here that you like those pups. I was thinking about a set of those for an old bass I have.

Hi David:
hmmmm...be careful all the same. My bass is a maple necked J on an ash body which kind of naturally seems to give it a certain clarity and agressivity (compared to my other basses). The Dimarzio pick ups moderate that and make the sound fuller and rounder (in my opinion). However, please note that on a rosewood necked J bass I would have gone for EMG pick ups to come to a similar conclusion :-).
