Bass Player mag.....worth the money???

I've been subscribing to Bassplayer Mag now for about 4 years. It costs megabucks to have it sent here downunder - even dearer at the stores.

I don't think I'll renew my subscription this year.

Tell me if it's me and if I'm being a grumpy old fart, but I feel a majority of articles aren't really up to scratch. The journalism is average at best in my opinion.

Sure, there's the odd article that shines - Paul McCartney, Adam Clayton..... - but that's quite rare.

The mag is saturated with advertising which if you're astute, you can keep more up to date on the internet with latest developments and products - Bass forums, Music123 type sites etc and get more menaingful information.

The reviews.......everything they try generally gets a good review and either they just try good stuff only or they feel the need not to bite the hand that feeds them.

If you feel it is a great mag and worth every cent, all well and good and I would genuinely like to hear WHY you consider this so.....re-ignite my zeal for BassPlayer if you can.

I also let my subscription go this year, you pretty much summed my feelings up about it too, most of the time it just wouldnt keep my interest and I don't think Ive seen 2 tabs worth learning the 2 years I had it.

I feel the same way. I've been considering a subscription to Vintage Guitar Mag would be better

I get Vintage Guitar... great mag. A friend of mine who builds guitars was featured in one issue and suddenly he was getting orders from Europe.

i bought one issue but inspected many thuroughly. and i find it mediocre personally. the only one i saw useful was an interview with Steve Harris from Iron Maiden and he showed a few riffs.

I have had it with Bass Player. The first time I subscribed they lost my information and it took months to get the magazine started. I renewed last October and haven't received anything. I've been dealing with the Customer Service people at BP and they really stink. It has been weeks of emails back and forth. They respond to each email about three days after I send it.

They now want me to fax them my credit card statement showing that I paid for the magazine. Yeah, that's a good idea, fax them my statement. I'm done with them.

I'll settle for my bi-monthly Bass Guitar and Christian Musician mags.

Wow, that's a sorry story Pete - from BP's point of view they should take notoce of things like this if they want to be in business much longer.

I think they feel they are cock-'o-the-hoop.

Oh well, I'm not renewing, I've made my mind up about that.

I just received a call from the circulation manager from Bass Player and my situation has been resolved. He was very nice and it looks like the problem with my subscription is related to the 3rd Party company I renewed my magazine through.

Bottom line is they are going to send me the issues I missed plus renew my subscription for a year. This is a very nice offer when I consider that I did not resubscribe directly through them.

So, I am now a fan of BP again and will renew directly through them in the future.

Mo... they seemed a bit surprised that someone from New Zealand actually got the magazine and even more surprised that I would know that.

I told him that there is a tight-knit international community of bass players on the Internet that often look out for each other. He seemed impressed. AvtiveBass Rules!

I'm out on BP mag lately. I just don't find it interesting anymore. They hit a homer occasionally though.
