well, lets see...i played the violin, so i have a habit at looking at my hands. And i have shorty stubby fingers lol.

Try practicing your scales in the dark. It will keep you from having to watch your hands, and will build your muscle memory. That tip helped me tremendously when I was just starting out...

thanks! that makes alot of sense! i do look at my hands the whole time i'm playing. it's a bad habit i got from playing the violin lol.

What kind of problems? Do your fingertips peel; do your joints hurt; is your reach short? I remember a problem I have (and still have sometimes) is that my fingers get "tied up" moving up and down the neck, and I end up fretting with the wrong fingers.

For most of these problems, you'll want to find an exersize to get over them. The best ones are the ones that you make up. If you're having problems with trills then do them over and over up and down the neck. Hand stretches definitely help.

i have short fingers

Short or long, you only need to get one fret per finger. I know people with short stubby fingers who are way better than me. Just practice more. Violin and bass are two different creatures. You'll get used to it.

well, its not exactly a problem. But, if you want to have a band later, you can't just keep looking at your hands. :)
