A question for some of you younger bassists...
In a desire to listen to different things, I realize that there is almost an entire generation of music that I am unfamiliar with. So while I am very familiar with the classic basslines of R&B, Rock, Jazz, Fusion, Older TV themes, Nashville, (You know, "I'll Take You There"-Pops Staples, theme from "Barney Miller", "Teen Town"-Jaco, "Footprints"-various versions, "Hair"-Larry Graham, "Freddy's Dead"-Curtis Mayfield", "Fire"-Ohio Players, etc.) I am very unfamiliar with the classic basslines developed over the last 20 years or so, when I was emersed in Cuban music. Heck I am more familiar with modern Cuban music than I am with what has been happening in a lot of genres here in the States. So, please direct me to tunes and bass players to listen to so I can become familiar with the riffs that have been going on in rock, indie rock, alternative, gospel etc. Hook a brutha up!

To be honest, nothing that "new" has shown up in the past twenty years...nothing that I would label "classic", not just yet anyway.
Try out some Wilco, Sparklehorse, Jets to Brazil, Velvet Underground, Prince, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Medeski Martin & Wood, etc...Lots of cool stuff out there...
