I played one in a store once. It was a couple of years ago so my memory might not be entirely accurate.

I remember it played nicely and felt good under the fingers. I personally thought the front pickup got in the way of my fingers a bit, but that might not be a problem for you depending on your exact technique.

The tone was good I remember. It had that classic stingray edge and clarity, maybe with more of a modern style. I remember you could also give the tone a bigger bottom, kind of like a big bubbly P-bass sound.

At least that is what I remember.

i recommend you to ask that question in the ernieball musicman forums. there are many bongo lovers who can share with you some interesting experience with this bass. Although the looks of the bongo are not my cup of tea, it's one of the best sounding basses i've ever heard.

Hi peter, i know this thread is a bit old but anyway... I live in cork and just bought a cream bongo from www.basscentral.com and it's amazing! It's a used cream 5-string with 2 humbuckers and a 4 band EQ. The bass cost me 1300 dollars, 295 dollars shipping and then 186 euro which altogether cost about 1200 euro. I haven't seen one on sale over here but when i saw a stingray in dublin a few years ago it was about 2 grand. The only thing about getting a Musicman from the US is the dealers are only allowed used or discontinued basses to overseas customers. Bass central we're very quick with my order and extremely helpful too. I had the bass in 2 days via DHL! The bass is extremely versatile and can conjure up pretty much any sound i want. The mid controls allow you to get some great harmonics and can also help to get rid of unwanted boominess. Anyway, enough rambling, great bass. Get one. John.

I never got that bongo after all but I did end up getting a Musicman Stingray. Its one of the 20th Annivesary Stingrays and quite collectable.

I was a bit nervous about buying a Bongo as I couldnt try one out here in Ireland. I got to try a Stingray in Music Maker in Dublin and really liked it.
