I think that if it weighs more than 30 or 40 lbs, and bigger than a standardish 15-inch speaker cab, you'll want casters.

I also think your rig will sound good enough to hump it up down a couple flights of stairs for gigs.

I've gone off castors even though I do offer them on the cabs I build for customers if they really want them.

They are a great source for rattle I've found and are frustrating when you load into tight areas.

In addition, having castors on your cab means you don't get full floor coupling which can amount to a few dB.

Far better, in my opinion, is to use what we call here "Hand Trucks"

There are many types, sizes and weights and with a little forward reasearch you can find one that is easy to take along with you.

Stretchy cords help hold more than one cab in place whilst carrying on the hand truck.

Great for stairs except those where you need two people and castor would be un-useable anyhow.

Mo,

I have noticed that some removalists [Australian for them blokes wot move house for ya] often have hand trucks with 3 wheels one each side and they actually step up stairs. Fantastic idea. I guess if anyone wants to know where to get them in their area, a phone call to the removalist might be a few cents well spent.

Glad you are back mate.

my ampeg has castors which just pull off (some sort of quick release lockin mech in the base)

so, on for movement, off for performance.

I find it sounds better with them off.

It also sounds better about 5 inches away from a solid wall, this increases the volume by about 30%!

With a 212 and an Epifani UL amp, I would not bother with either a handtruck or casters. Casters suck, for all the reasons outlined already, and handtrucks are heavy and bulky.

I disagree. If you hunt around you can find some very compact lightwieight fold up types but not made in Asia as they don't last 5 minutes.

Of course the type I am talking about is quite expensive but then again how much will it cost to fix a wrecked back?
