I need Help! Where are the Tube freaks?
I can't make up my mind!
I have an Epifani 2x12 on the way and I am looking for a nice, good sounding, loud, bass head. My options:
Mesa Boogie 400+
or
AMPEG 1972 SVT
I love them both. Never had a tube amp. Love the idea of having the "Original" Tube amp. Is it the right choice? I mean, The Epifani can take 600 w at 4 ohms and they perform better when pushed. (high performance). I could tag on another 2x12 late (when i have money) and put out more wattage with the Mesa while the Amperg still pushed out 300w to the cabs. What would be better? They are around the same price.
Hope you have/had a great thanksgiving for you americans.

Personally I would go for the Mesa 400+, in the long run a more versatile amp and easier on tubes and upkeep than an old SVT and a whole lot lighter. But that is only if I really hadda go all tube, but that would never be my choice for bass. For Piccolo bass tubes all the way.

Go for the mesa. It's more powerful, cheaper, and has a great tone.

I'd go for the SVT-CL instead
But that's cause I've fallen in love with this amp.
Best possible solution for your situation
go to a shop with your bass
set up two rigs with both heads
give them both a chance to speak.
Then make up your mind.
I've never had the joy of trying the 400+
it's a Boogie model being produced since it's
introduction ( like the SVT-CL model by Ampeg )
so both lines are a guarantee for performance
and durability.
Better try man...
